Figure 1: Map showing which states have anti-hazing laws

Not only are there websites to help prevent hazing, but there are also anti-hazing laws passed in
almost most every state. Each state has a different anti-hazing law, but they are all along the
lines of making it illegal for anyone, including high school students, to perform any acts, which
may be considered hazing. This map above shows that 44 of out the 50 states have anti-hazing
laws. The following 6 states are without anti-hazing laws; South Dakota, Montana, Hawaii,
Alaska, New Mexico, Wyoming.

Sadly we still see hazing happening in the Greek system today. Many of the fraternities
believe it is a way to bond with your pledge bro and use the slogan its not hazing, its
brotherhood. All fraternities have their own hazing rituals, like the Alcohol chug, paddling or
branding, but fraternity SAE had their own idea of hazing. According to Andrew Lohse, who
wrote a book called Confessions of an Ivy League Frat Boy, his fraternity brothers would make
him swim in a kiddie pool of vomit, urine, fecal matter, semen and rotten food products; eat
omelets made of vomit; chug cups of vinegar, which in one case caused a pledge to vomit blood;
drink beer poured down fellow pledges' ass cracks... among other abuses This image above is
just one of many horrible acts that have been caught on camera. There is so much more that
happens behind closed doors. My mission is to educate the student on how to recognize when
someone is being hazed and how to stop it.

Not many students know that hazing occurs on their campus, even in their own
organization. Whether you think it happens or not, we have all heard horror stories of what has
happened in the past regardless if they were true or not. Our mission is to educate the class about
what is happening behind closed doors. The infographic above shows that it is not just the greek
system that has hazing. It is very stereotypical to think that hazing only occurs in the Greek
community because that is usually what is put on television or in movies, but contrary to popular
belief, hazing occurs in seventy-four percent of athletics and only seventy-three in the Greek
community. But its not safe to assume that it only happens with those two organization. As ou
can see that it can really occur anywhere.
