1. Pinkalicious: School Rules! (I Can Read Book 1 Series)


By: Victoria Kann
When Pinkalicious brings her golden unicorn to school one
day, she must make sure she behaves in the classroom! Her
teacher is concerned because unicorns dont belong in
school.
This book is great for my unit plan because it promotes
school rules. Pinkalicious tells her unicorn the rules and make
sure she follows them.

2. The Berenstain Bears Learn about Strangers


By: Stan and Jan Berenstain
When sister starts to talk to strangers in the community,
it is mother, father, and brothers job to teach her safety
rules. Sister must learn not to talk to strangers and to
make smart, safe decisions.
This book could be used in my unit plan when talking
about community rules, specifically stranger danger.

3. Stranger Danger- How to Talk to Kids About Strangers


By: Kristi Porter
Kristi Porter, is an award winning teacher who wrote this
book so parents and caregivers can teach their children
(ages 3-8) how to react to strangers in age appropriate
ways that wont scare them.
This book is important for my unit plan because all kids
needs to know the rules of when or when not to talk to
strangers. Another important aspect of this book is it
examples to children what to do when they are confronted
by a stranger.
4. I Can Share
By: Karen Katz
Sharing does not come easily to some children.
This simplistic book will teach the concept of
sharing and why it is important. There is an
emphasis that sharing with our friends can be fun.
This book is great for the school rules section of
my unit plan. Sharing is a school rule that is
important for all students to comprehend and
follow.

5. Llama Llama Time to Share


By: Anna Dewdney
This book encourages children to share with
others especially their friends. When Llama has
trouble sharing with Nelly Gnu, Mama has to step
in and take the toys from them both until they
learn to share them.
This book could be used for my unit plan when
talking about sharing because it emphasizes
sharing with friends. Also, I like how it draws
attention to the fact that there will be
consequences if sharing does not take place.

6. On the Road (Watch Out Series)


By: Claire Llewellyn
This book teaches to children to observe safe,
community rules when riding their bikes or
traveling as a passenger in their parents care.
There is also safety rules for walking across the
street and being a pedestrian.
This book focuses on community and road safety
rules. It gives students advice on what to do
while on or near roads but also have fun while
doing it.
7. Be Aware!: My Tips for Personal Safety (Cloverleaf
Books- My Healthy Habits)
By: Gina Bellisario
Sophie is on a mission about safety. She knows all
about how to be safe. Sophies job is to teach her
little brother how to stay away from danger. They
dont talk to strangers and always watch for
speeding cars.
This book is great for pre-k students to read
because it talks about not only keeping yourself
safe but others too. This will be used in my unit
plan because its main-focus is following rules in
order to stay safe.

8. Chicken and Cat Clean Up


By: Sara Varon
Chicken starts his own housekeeping business and
hires Cat to help out. Cat keeps making mistakes and
making messes worse. Chicken gets upset and Cat is
sad. When Cat catches a mouse that got lose in the
house, they decide to become a power couple and
clean up and catch mice.
This book is a great option for my unit plan because
it talks about the importance of cleaning. Since
cleaning up after ones self is a school rule, this can
be tied in easily.

9. Respect: Dare to Care, Share, and Be Fair!


By: Ted and Jenny ONeal
This book teaches the virtue of being respectful to the
people around us. Its a good way to be and a way to
be good. Students need to learn to care for others
and treat them how they would want to be treated.
In my unit plan one of the major classroom and
community rules I have included is being respectful.
Manners are extremely important and is a vital rule
that needs to be followed.
10. Respect and Take Care of Things
By: Cheri J. Meiners
Everything has a place and needs to be
taken care. Respect, responsibility, and
stewardship are things that all children can
and need to understand. This story focuses
on caring for the items around us and
putting things where they belong.
Another major school rule, is to put things
back where you found them and to take care
of classroom items. This book discusses
these two topics and would be a great
addition to my unit plan.
