MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT

( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING )

GENERAL RULES AT THE DISSECTION ROOM.

STUDENTS MUST:

1. Follow Code of Ethic of Anatomy ( Based on Mortui Vivos Docent )

1.1. Respect the cadavers as the students respect their living teachers.
1.2. MUST NOT make fun of cadavers or parts of the cadavers whatever the condition of
the cadavers or parts of the cadavers might be
1.3. MUST NOT throw part of the cadaver if fellow student wants to borrow the
specimen
1.4. Give / take directly the specimen from fellow student if he / she wants to lend /
borrow the specimen.
1.5. MUST NOT damage cadavers or parts of the cadavers on purpose or for fun.

2. Prepare for Laboratory practice, including :

2.1. Study the Lab. Manual accordingly

2.2. Bring along Anatomy dissecting instruments ( minimum 1 for each group )
2.3. Bring along Lab. Manual, Anatomy atlas and ( if necessary ) lecture materials
2.4. Wear the required Laboratory dress properly

3. Work very carefully to avoid accidents from dissection instruments.

.WEEK ( LABORATORY ) FOUR ; APRIL 27 , 28 , 2017

TOPICS : THYROID, PARATHYROID and SUPRARENAL GLAND

COMPETENCY AREA : 5

COMPETENCY LEVEL : 4A

LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

1
After finished laboratory practice Student should be able to describe / identify :

1. Location of thyroid gland

2. Anatomy of thyroid gland
3. Blood supply of thyroid gland
4. Anatomy of parathyroid glands
5. Anatomy of suprarenal gland
6. Blood supply of suprarenal gland

ATTENTION FOR STUDENTS :

To achieve the learning objectives Students at Dissection Room do the following

procedures :

1. Discuss among the group :

1.1. Hormones produced by hypothalamus that connected to thyroid, parathyroid
and suprarenal glands.
1.2. Relation of hypothalamus hormone with pituitary and :
3.2.1. thyroid gland
3.2.2. parathyroid gland
3.2.3. suprarenal gland
2. Discuss among the group :
2.1. the location of thyroid and parathyroid gland.
2.2. how to identify patients thyroid by palpation.
3. Identify at the specimen parts of thyroid gland. Look for :
3.1. Right and left lobes of thyroid gland ( Lobi dextra et sinistra glandulae
thyroideae )
3.2. Thyroid isthmus ( Isthmus glandulae thyroideae )
3.3. ( If available ) Pyramidal lobe of the thyroid gland ( Lobus pyramidalis glandulae
thyroideae ) ;
3.4. (If available ) Levator thyroid muscle / ligament ( Lig./M. levator glandulae thyroideae)
4. Discuss among the group embryologic origin of lobus pyramidalis and ligamentum
. levator glandulae thyroideae.
5. Identify at the specimen blood supply of thyroid gland. Look for :
5.1. Superior thyroid artery ( A. thyroidea superior )
5.2. Inferior thyroid artery ( A. thyroidea inferior )
6. Discuss among the group the difference of thyroid blood supply :
6.1. the origin of the arteries
6.2. distribution of the arteries
7. ( If possible ) Identify at the specimen parathyroid glands.
8. ( If possible ) Identify at the specimen suprarenal gland ( adrenal gland , gld. suprarenalis )
9. Discuss among the group :
9.1. blood supply of suprarenal gland
9.2. where are the origin of the arteries
