ASTRONOMY and Telescope

As we know that astronomy is the study of the Universe. It entails the

observation of objects in space such as planets, satellites, stars and
galaxies. Astronomy is mostly an observational science. In most cases,
astronomers use known physical laws to determine how objects in the
universe respond and react.

However the modern astronomy began with Italian astronomer Galileo. In

1609 when Galileo heard of the telescope made by the Dutchman Hans
Lippershy. He improved upon it and constructed an instrument that could
magnify up to thirty diameters (refractor telescope).

With refractor telescope Galileo found that the moons surface is nagged
and the Pleiades is a group of over 40 stars. He also discovered four of
Jupiters moons and observe the sunspots.

Now satellites have made it possible to study the astral phenomena from
above the atmosphere. Thus astronomy is studied from two levels from
the ground and from above the atmosphere. This has led to the
emergence of many specialised fields in astronomy.
