Introduction to PMI

Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI) is non-geometric information that can be attached to or
associated with objects in a part or assembly and displayed in 3D space. The NX application for creating PMI
is available in 3D environments such as Gateway and Modeling.
PMI can be used by downstream activities such as tooling, manufacturing, inspection and shipping. PMI
created with NX complies with your choice of standard for digital product definition, and 3D models with PMI
can be used as a replacement for drawings.
You can display PMI information in any views in the part file and at any level in an assembly structure. You
can use assembly filters to control which PMI information contained in component parts is displayed in an
assembly.

Examples of PMI objects include:

Dimensions Symbols
Datum feature symbols Security markings
Datum targets User defined PMI
Feature control frames PMI section views
Notes

Note You cannot create PMI in the Drafting application, but you can inherit PMI objects from a model view
into a drafting view. See the Drafting Help for more information.
