Title: Addition and Subtraction up to 10

Summary: The students will be able to add numbers up to 10 by using

items. The students will be able to subtract numbers up to 10 by using items
and games.

Learners: The group of learners that will be participating in this lesson are
Kindergarteners. Any accommodations that need to be made for this lesson
would include enlarging the texts on the students iPads, assisting any
students who need help accessing the resources, and following any IEPs in
the class. If students need help reaching the resources, I will assist them so
that they can be successful.
Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.OA.A.1
Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images,

Timeline of activities (Instructional Procedures):

Anchor: I will play one of the games on my iPads so that the students
know what to expect and get excited about doing it on their own.
To start the lesson, I will tell the students what the objectives of this
lesson are going to be and how they are going to reach them.
Task: The students will be learning a math lesson using resources
online. I have given them 4 websites that they will use in order to
complete this lesson.
After explaining to them what they are going to be doing, I will show
them a few of the websites that they are going to be using and how to
get to them. This should spark their interest in this lesson because they
will be using games to gain knowledge on this topic.
Students will reach the objectives by using online resources that give
them enough information on how to apply this new math skill.
As the teacher, I will present a PowerPoint on the SmartBOARD that will
give the students directions and instructions on how to get to the
websites that they will be using.
Directions: On the first slide of the PowerPoint, I will go step by step
on how to log in to the students iPads and what application they
should be using. Its important to remind the students that they need
to have their headphones plugged in so that the other students arent
distracted.
I will answer any questions that the students have about logging in to
their iPads.
After explaining to them how to log in, I will continue on with the
lesson.
The first step to this lesson is to watch the Addition Video that will be
provided on the slide show. While the students are accessing the first
resource, I will be walking around and making sure that they are on the
right website.
Student Inquiry: After all the students have reached the website, I
will have them all start watching the first video together.
Student Choices: Once the students are done with the video, they
can continue onto the website where they will play the game. The
website will be shown on the PowerPoint. They are allowed to do this
portion of the lesson on their own.
I will give the students about 15-20 minutes on the addition game.
Again, while they are playing the game, I will be walking around and
redirecting off task behavior.
Team work and collaboration/Teaching coaching and feedback:
The students will be able to ask questions throughout the lesson so
that they can be successful. As a class, we can work as a team so that
everyone knows what they can do to be better.
Student Inquiry: Once the students have reached a challenging level
on the game, we will move on to the second part of the lesson.
As we did for addition, I will show the students what website they need
to go to in order to reach the subtraction lesson. I will remind them that
their headphones still need to be plugged in to avoid any distractions.
Once the students have finished the video they can move on to the
game.
The subtraction game will be addressed on the PowerPoint. If students
are having a hard time reaching the website, they make ask their
partners around them and if they still cant reach it, they can then ask
the teacher for help.
I will give the students about 15-20 minutes on this section as well.
Student Reflection: Once they have finished the game and reaching
a challenging level, I will record their scores.
Public Presentation: To review, I will have a group discussion on
what the students enjoyed most about the game.
The importance of this lesson is to see how successful other online
resources can be rather than a teacher lecturing to a class. It also gives
them a preview of what the internet and what technology can do for
us.

Assessment Plan:
Addition Game: For the addition game, I will monitor the students progress as
they complete each round.
Subtraction Game: For the subtraction game, I will monitor the students
progress on what levels they reach.
Below is the rubric that the students will receive before they start the lesson.
I will give them their points as they finish each section of the rubric. I will also
be keeping track of the scores on my own rubric so that we can come back to
these games and see what progress the students have made over the year.
