How do ASU students study?

Introduction:

In our research project, we decided to do a research on how does everyone here in ASU

study. In other words, what are the ways that ASU students prefer to study. In our survey, we

came up with eight questions:

1. Who do you study with?

2. Where do you study most of the time?

3. How often do you study in a week?

4. How long do you study for in one day?

5. Do you enjoy the process of studying?

6. Whats your method of studying efficiently?

7. When do you study?

8. What subject is the hardest for you?

After we came up with the questions, we used Google Docs Form to create a survey that consists

of all the questions we came up with above. then we used Excel spreadsheet to analyze the 126

responses we received back from our fellow ASU classmates.

Who do you study with?

This question asks if anyone is around you when you study most of the times. People around

while studying may be a distraction, but it doesnt exclude the chances that you might be having

a tutor helping with your work. With our data, I found that about 68 out of 126 who took the

survey prefer to study on their own. Which is not a surprise in which I think studying alone is the

most effective way to study.

Where do you study the most?

In this question, we are trying to figure out where do most of the student study, I know that there

are people who likes to study outside, such as the library or just under the sun. with our data, we

found that 93 students prefer to study at home or dorm. And only 29 people prefer to study in a

library or outdoors. This questions gives us a general idea of the location preference for ASU

students when studying.

in this question we are tying to figure out how many times ASU students study per week. In the

graph, 36 students answered they study more than three times a week which proves that

stududents here do care about their grades and tries to reach their academic goals.

How long do you study for in one day?

In the last question we asked about how many times do students study per week, this one is to

see how long do students study per day. Most students chose two hours which in my opinion

isnt that much effort applied in to studying, but still it sounds resonable to study for two hours

without any distractions.

Do you enjoy the process of studying?

This is a simple yes or no question that shows your attitude towards studying. After our research,
we found out that 73 students out of 126 in total did not enjoy the process of studying at all. this
shows that a large portion of the students here at ASU does not like studying, but still, most of
them still studying for more than 3 times a week and at least 2 hours per day.

What is your method of studying efficiently?

this question is to learn what do people like to do to make their studying more efficient. In this

one, 53 people chose to study with music, and 40 chose to study quietly. I am surprised by the

fact that more people prefer music than quietness.

When do you study?

in this question, we tried to figure out what part of the day do people like to study the most. And

from our result, we concluded that most people (69/126) preferred to study at night. Which

explains why some college students are feeling sleepy and tired during the day, its because they

didnt get enough sleep the night before.

What subject is the hardest for you?

This is a very general question, we wanted to know which subject does ASU students struggle

the most on, we have mathematics coming in on top of the list with 69 votes out of 126. And

science coming after math with 26 votes.

How do ASU students study?

Analysis:

From our data, we concluded that most people prefer to study during the night, at home

studying by themselves with the music on, and addition to that, mathematics is the hardest

subject for the majority. Even though we asked a lot of questions, I think we are still missing

some, such as asking about the year of the respondents. Therefore, I can have an idea of different

study methods and styles among different grades. I should have also added a question about the

respondents GPA to have an idea of what is the most efficient way to study, or if doing such and

such will improve your grade. If I would have done this research again, I would have targeted

more on how to study efficiently instead of focusing on learning how do most people prefer to

study.
