The Andean Trade Preference Act -ATPA- is a unilateral program

of tariff preferences granted by the United States in the year 1992
to the Andean countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru),
by virtue of which the United States allowed entry without tariff to
certain articles, which are grown, produced or manufactured in a
beneficiary country and which comply with the requirements laid
down.

The Generalized System of Preferences for the Andean

countries (Andean GSP): The Andean GSP is a special regime
unilaterally that the European Union gives to Colombia and to
other countries within the framework of the Community GSP
applied to developing countries. The system provides for the
reduction of 100% of the customs tariff for nearly 90 per cent of
imports from the Andean countries.

The Generalized System of Preferences - GSP- in other

countries: Colombia also enjoys access tariff preferences in
developed countries such as Australia, Canada, United States,
Japan, Norway, New Zealand and Switzerland, within the GSP
scheme; through these schemes are has a preferential access to
the markets mentioned, which gives a comparative advantage in
relation to the countries that do not benefit from the Generalized
System of Preferences.
The Free Trade Treaty, (Colombian-U.S.): The Treaty of Book
Trade is an agreement between Colombia and the United States
in order to remove obstacles to trade between the two countries
and to improve the conditions of access for its products. The deal
was closed on 27 February 2006, and is expected to enter into
force in January 2007.

the CAN which operates under the aegis of the ALADI. Under this
Agreement, Colombia has freedom of commercial exchange with
Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, countries members of the CAN.

Established by the Treaty of Montevideo of 1980, the ALADI

allows the conclusion of partial scope agreements between the
countries and areas of economic integration of Latin America. In
addition, thanks to the agreement of mutual settlements trade
among the members of the Association can be channelled without
risk of financial intermediary, which generates credit facilities for
both the buyer and supplier.
Caribbean Community (CARICOM):

CARICOM is a program of trade liberalization which came into

effect from the first of January of 1995, taking into account the
difference in the levels of relative development of member
countries of the agreement, within which Colombia is the largest
relative economic development.

The 12 CARICOM member countries that participate as

signatories of this Partial Scope Agreement are: Trinidad and
Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda,
Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis,
