You will be splitting off into groups to collaborate and discuss today's discussion topic using the
educational tool TodaysMeet. You then will post your response to the following discussion
question individually for a grade.

Discussion Topic: How does CCSD Technology Education Standards, Nevada Performance
Indicators, and National Educational Technology Standards impact instruction across different
grade levels?

I must say that this lesson helped me comprehend more on the National Indicators and what standards
are expected according to the grade level. The one that I reviewed and will like to share today is
communication and collaboration. In these standards, it helps students interact, collaborate, learn from
and understand various cultures. As an educator, it also teaches us how to understand the differences in
students from different backgrounds. I see that the trend for the standards on cultural and global
awareness from second grade to twelfth grade shows a growth. In second grade, we start off by digitally
showing places, I personally can imagine showing them different places in Africa, which is so beautiful.
They will learn about different people, their beliefs, celebrations and where exactly it is located. We move
on to fifth grade and they are researching about Africa and many tribes and their cultures, what they wear,
eat, and believe in. By eight grade, we are getting ready to communicate with people of Africa, maybe
even through skype, we can reach out to a school that will allow us to virtually visit. Continue or learning
in their cultures and in different places. Twelfth grade we can continue to interact with the different groups
and maybe even plan a visit to Africa. We can continue on with videos, conference calls, video calls,
make it more personal as we continue to learn from them and their beautiful culture. Technology will
always work best when integrated in your lesson plan or your curriculum. It will impact your decision
making because you are able to do things that years ago, you only dreamed of. Look at me for example, I
have lived here for over 12 years and all my family is in Miami, Up until a couple of years ago, I felt so
alone. Now with skype, WhatsApp and Facebook chat, I feel like they are close by. It amazes me how as
the child grows into older grade levels, you are just following on with the teaching. My point of view, is that
using the standards, stops you from making someone drive a car without teaching them to drive it first. As
educators and per ISTE, we are here to promote and support the students thinking and their creativity.
We are here to inspire them to learn. To help them collaborate with one another and learn from each
other. We are the ones that have to design our lessons according to the standards and follow through on
accomplishing that every student learns. We adapt to every students needs and develop ways that every
student can learn. We have to know what we are talking about and show that we are also tech savvy and
if not, that we are willing to learn ourselves. Per ISTE, students have to apply themselves and
demonstrate that they are creative thinkers that they have the willingness and dive to learn. They have to
be able to explore and step out of their comfort zone. The way that we are growing with technology is
such a beautiful thing, we can learn so much from it and as educators, grow with our students as we
make an impact in their lives, today and tomorrow.
