Writing-Based Data Progress Tools

One thing I will use in my classroom to improve students writing is a writing

journal. Each student will reflect and write in the journal as they read or to
answer a prompts. Journals are a way for students to practice writing and
reflecting. With journals I can also get to know my students and provide them
with feedback to improve their writing. I remember my fourth grade teacher
using this and I loved it.
The second thing I will use as a writing progress tool is the writing tracker,
with my writing journal. This will allow the students and I to see how they are
improving in writing speed and writing content.
The third thing I found, that I will use with the two other tools, is the Writers
Workshop Conference chart. This will allow me to provide students written
feedback in the journal and oral feedback during the conference. If I have an
intentional purpose to my prompts the conferences will allow me to keep
track if the students attained a skill, strategy or the content that I taught.
