PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or
vodcast in order to achieve required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where
the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or above. To do this you will have to design a project where
students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an audience that will use or care about
the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and performance.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:
I will be introducing my students to Margaret Hillert. My students will gather different facts
about Margaret Hillert and as a group activity; we will gather various facts about the life of Margaret
Hillert and learn about Margaret Hillerts work as an author while gaining insight into Margaret
Hillert through objects and artifacts of his life. We will discuss/read various books written by Hillert.
Students will explore books written by this author and create a video of their life or an idea from the
book of their choice.
My students will reflect upon the life of Margaret Hillert in small groups using images taken by
them using the iPad and create a video using Windows Movie Maker. They will revisit the timeline of
Margaret Hillerts life and use it as a template to create their own personal timelines. For example,
they can include the day their born, any first accomplishments, any awards they earned or sports
they were involved in to start.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:

LoTi 5 because the students will take technology outside the classroom by sharing their product
beyond-the-classroom. Also, they will engage in higher learning by applying concepts learned about
motion such as definitions, show understanding of the topic, evaluate others work by viewing videos
inside the classroom, and creating a product to share. The students will express their understanding
of motion through the pictures that they snap and create a movie that will be displayed on the
teachers Edu blog.
Importance of technology:

The use of a website-creation tool critical to the project takes the Loti level to a higher level of
learning for the students as they create and express their level of understanding of the topic of
motion, speed, and direction. This project certainly can be completed without this technology;
however, the Loti level would be lower because it wont expand outside of the four walls of the
classroom. Using the blog will keep everyone in your class on the same page and creating a blog on
the site can be easy once they see the example the teacher creates to guide them.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project
(whether in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you
borrowed from others. N/A

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.

Be sure to get permission from parents to display a childs work via the internet and do not display personal
information regarding the student. The teacher can include the milestone or standard the child is learning
for the project and assign students numbers to help parents distinguish their childs work from others in the
classroom. It makes viewing the assignments easier.
