REVIEW
Susan Pinker in her article “Can student have too much tech? ”emphasizes on drawbacks of
under-age technology usage by primary class students because it adversely effects the
creativeness, communication skillset of the students. Unsupervised utilization of
technology, free surfing on internet, early age usage of social media deprive the students
from physical activities , peer interactions , society inter-connection as they are indulged in
playing games on computer. Pinker shared American president OBAMA’s technology
program that ensured access of open and free internet to every classroom . This scheme
hampered the language learning abilities , reading expertise and math problem solving
compatibility. The above mentioned problems found more in under-privileged families as
their children do not focus too much on studies. Many surveys were done to check
competence of students but the result was shocking , weaker students were badly effected by
excessive use of technology.
Pinker pointed the light on Obama’s technology program that embedded every classroom
with internet to educate American students but his scheme had horrible influence instead of
making betterment of the students. it increased the social discrimination among students.
Students from middle class families utilizes most of their time in using gadgets. They do not
focus on studies, instead of it they remain indulged in useless activities as compared to higher
class students . “Lower-income teens (13- to 18-year-olds) spent more than 8.5 hours each
day on smartphones, tablets, video games, and other screen media, compared with six hours
and 49 minutes for their higher-income peers.” (Vox by Rani Molla).
According to research by economists, it was observed that employment of technology on
elementary school level lessened the creativity and solutions finding abilities , as they were
totally allowed to browse about anything they wanted. This mismanagement was found most
common among non-native students in America because they were weak in English. Apart to
it, excessive use of technology declined the happiness level among students , they started to
stay depressed. They have less number of ways to remain joyful and happy as in time of
doing physical activities and exercise they are busy in scrolling reels and using laptops as
mean of entertainment .
For good ideas and true innovation, person needs human interaction , conflict, arguments and
debates. The quality of person’s life is mostly dependent on type of daily interactions .A
child who is tech worm have no social interaction , So he remain disconnected with natural
life. He cannot take responsibility of any relationship in his life. He has social skillset issues.
If children are allowed to surf internet without any guidance, they begin to stay apart and lock
themselves up in private spaces to play or watch videos on mobile devices.
According to research by Mark Warschauer and Morgan Ames that the adult have distributed
laptops among children, they did not monitored them , this unguided and unmonitored
engagement of children with laptop and electric devices results in decline in learning and
concept grapping abilities . If a children uses technology in a harmful way , it is not his fault
because they are not aware of possible bad effect of technology that are caused by unmindful
and uninformed guidance.
Many students use technology as alternative of teachers, they pursue videos and website for
their articles. Online learning is only a formality and not a real substitute for regular
teaching. A primary class student have not enough knowledge about the point that which
thing is right or wrong for him. So, free surfing, open internet , unmonitored manipulation of
tach devices are not allowed for primary class students. First students should be taught about
directions for right and wrong things.
According to my point of view, it is not advisable to employ technology for primary students
because it has primarily adverse effect on innovation in children. Teenagers who use
technology more time are more likely to get disconnected by peer interaction As a result ,
they become tech worm and are likely to get depressed .  Many seem to prefer to text or talk
on social media as opposed to talking to each other in-person. Falling Grades and decreased
communication skill is also due to sharp usage of tech devices.
