Yet many developing nations, including many African nations, attacked this demand as another

way by which aid agencies could place conditions on their assistance. They apparently have
yet to realize that aid which produces short-term returns by encouraging the spread of
deserts, the destruction of productive forests and the overfishing of seas and lakes is not really
aid at all, but yet another form of exploitation.

I never realized how complicated helping people to not starve could be. It is quite clear that the
entire crisis is a complicated issue, with complicated solutions, more so than to give more
food. You need to see where that food comes from, and how it affects the area around those who
are suffering.
