STUDENT RESPONSE AND ASSESSMENT TOOLS

Name: Leslie Haynie

Grade Level: Kindergarten
Content Area: Math
Standards Addressed:
MGSEK.G.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
- This standard addresses students identification of shapes based on known examples.
Students at this level do not yet recognize triangles that are turned upside down as triangles,
since they dont look like triangles. Students need ample experiences looking at and
manipulating shapes with various typical and atypical orientations. Through these
experiences, students will begin to move beyond what a shape looks like to identifying
particular geometric attributes that define a shape.
Student Response Technology Used:
NearPod Socrative PollEverywhere iRespond TodaysMeet Other: Quizlet
Technology that students will use to respond to questions/prompts:
Computer Hand-held student response system (such as iRespond) Phone
Tablet (such as iPad) Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity:
The teacher will discuss different shapes and how they can be represented in many sizes and orientations.
Students will be given the connection that shapes are like people, we all can come in different shapes, sizes,
and color but we are all still humans. Then further explain how we are separated by gender or race. The
teacher will give more examples and allow students to answer questions. Then, the teacher will explain how
to complete the SRS activity on Quizlet.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation
Survey/Poll Discussion Starter Homework Collection Other

Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity:
Each student will be given a tablet, or the chance to use the computer to complete this task. The students
will have to match a picture of a shape to the correct name, or vice versa. Each shape will have different
variations and sizes of them to challenge the students. Their final results will be recorded and sent to the
teacher for assessment to see where students are having the most trouble. Since this is a student-paced
activity, the teacher will not move on until all students have an understanding. This activity can also be
used for practice outside of the classroom. The teacher will also differentiate the SRS activity so the
students are really learning the material and not memorizing it.

Types of questions/prompts (Check all that apply):
Multiple choice Multiple Select True/False Yes/No Short open-ended response
or fill in the blank Longer open-ended response
Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students:
Students will be given different sizes and orientations of triangles to match to the word triangle. For
example, there will be a large triangle, a small triangle, an isosceles triangle, a scalene triangle, etc. in order
to challenge the students, but allow them to understand that all shapes come in different sizes and
variations.

Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? Yes No

Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback:
Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display correct response to the class
after the SRS activity? Yes No
Why or why not?
Yes, correct answers will be displayed and discussed after the SRS activity because students need to have
an understanding of their shapes regardless of their size or if they are regular. These shapes will only have
one correct answer as well, but multiple variations of that shape.
Use of data:
The ending results, how many the students got right vs. wrong and which ones, will be sent to the teacher
for assessment. The first time they complete it, the teacher will use this to see if students have full
understanding of their shapes.

Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: If they all have a good understanding, the teacher will
use this for a grade a move on to the next lesson. If there are students who are still struggling with this
activity, the teacher will continue to work with those students until they have an understanding. They will
also be given the chance to complete this activity for homework to get a better understanding.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My goal for this activity is to get students to understand that shapes will not always look the exact same
every time. They should know what the names of each shape are and be able to match them to their name.
Also, in Kindergarten, students are still struggling with their handwriting and how to take tests/quizzes so
giving them technology to complete the assessment will benefit them and the teacher.
