Journal Analysis

To have a better experience of study, it is really crucial for graduate students to do research

and analyze journal in my field which can not only improve writing and reading skills, but also

gain advanced knowledge in my discipline. The journal I found named Expert System with

Applications which was edited by Dr. Binshan Lin who is the BellSouth Corporation Professor

at Business School, Louisiana State University in Shreveport. [1] There is some basic

information about this journal which is showed as follow.

The type of the journal are original research articles and review articles. [2] However, most of

the articles in this journal are original research articles. The stated purpose about this journal is

that Expert Systems with Applications is a refereed international journal whose focus is on

exchanging information relating to expert and intelligent systems applied in industry,

government, and universities worldwide. [2] Also, the audience of this journal might be the

scholars, experts or educators who focus on the intelligent systems applied in industry,

government and universities worldwide. [2]

The structure of this journal is strict, it starts with editor-in-chief and the follow part will be

editorial advisory board. Also, the footer postil will provide the editorial office, author and

publication information. In addition, most of structure of each articles in this journal are
IMRDC model which is different from what we learned from the class because most of the

articles in this journal are original research paper so those articles often have the conclusion to

show their ideas. Most of the articles begin with Abstract and the following parts Highlights and

Keywords. Then, introduction will be the next part. Following part will be the method. Then,

result and discussion are the next part, but most of the authors combined those two parts into

one. Conclusion is the last section. More important, most of the articles focused on the result,

discussion and conclusion which showed that the way they use to analyze their research and

what the new exploration they found or what kind of topic they research about.

After reading this journal, I found that I gained some beneficial advanced knowledge from

this journal. Expert System with Applications showed me that data analytics engineering is

interdisciplinary program which consists with mathematics, computer science and statistic. [2]

Therefore, I realized that if I want to study this course well, I should not only focus on the

statistic and mathematics, but also learn the knowledge about computer science which is the part

I never study before. [2] More important, some of the articles in this journal focused on the

business analytics which is also the concentration program I will study in the future. [2] So after

reading this journal, I know that what kind of skills and knowledge I should gain or learn before

I study in this concentration in order to help to study in this program easier. Last but not the least,

As I said before, huge amount of the articles in this journal focused on business analytics.

Therefore, it is obvious that I can learn some advanced knowledge and know the trend of using

the business analytics to analyze the marketing which will help me to get a better internship. [2]
