Labaw Donggon
Labaw Donggon
Labaw Dongon was the son of Anggoy Alunsina and Buyung Paubari
Then again, Labaw fell in love for the third time with another woman
named Nagmalitong Yawa Sinagmaling Diwata. But the woman was
married to Buyung Saragnayan, who, like him, had a magical power.
Kill me first before you can have my wife, Buyung Saragnayan told him.
I'm ready to fight you, Labaw answered Saragnayan.
They fought each other for years using their strange magical powers
but Labaw could not kill Saragnayan. It seemed that Saragnayan's
power was stronger than Labaw's.
Labaw was overpowered and he was tied and detained at the pigpen
of Saragnayan. Meanwhile, his wives, Abyang Ginbitinan and Anggoy
Doronoon gave birth to their first borns. Abyang named her son Asu
Mangga and Anggoy Doronoon called her son Buyung Baranugun.
These two sons of Labaw wanted to see him and they decided to find
him. With the help of Buyung Baranugun's crystal ball, they learned
that Labaw was taken prisoner of Saragnayan. The two brothers
successfully freed their father who was so old and his body was
entirely covered with long hair.
You should find out first the secret of Saragnayan's power before you
fight him! Labaw told his two sons.
Yes, father, replied Baranugun. I will send Taghuy and Duwindi to
Abyang Alunsini to ask her of the secret of Saragnayan's power.
Baranugun leraned from Abyang that Saragnayan's breath was being
kept and taken cared of by a wild boar in the mountain. He and Asu
Mangga went to the mountain and slew the boar. They ate the heart of
the animal that was the life of Saragnayan.
When Abyang Ginbitinan and Anggoy Doronoon saw Labaw, they wept
in sorrow. They found out that Labaw could no longer hear and use his
mental faculties. They bathe him, cloth him and fed him. They took
care of him. Meanwhile, Buyung Humadapnon and Buyung
Dumalapdap, brothers-in-law of Anggoy Ginbitinan married
Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan and Lubaylubyok Hanginon
Mahuyukhuyukon respectively. The two women were the beautiful
sisters of Nagmalitong Yawa.
When Labaw Donggon learned of the marriage, he told his two wives
that he wanted to marry Nagmalitong Yawa Sinagmaling Diwata.
n the olden days, the people angered the gods and the goddesses because
of their sins and continued disobedience to the will of the gods. The gods
sent a great flood that submerged the whole earth and destroyed all the
living creatures, plants and animals alike. There were only two people who
survived the flood. They were brother and sister, Wigan and Bugan
respectively. When the water started to rise which later became the great
flood, Wigan climbed the Amuyaw Mountain to save himself. Likewise, Bugan
fled to the Kalawitan Mountain to take refuge.
Bugan stayed at the mountain until the water receded and the water soaked
ground had dried up. He came down the mountain and discovered that he
alone had survived. Everybody got drowned, even the animals. Dead bodies
were scattered everywhere, stinking. As he walked around looking for
something to eat, he saw a woman half buried to the ground, waving her
hand at him. Then he recognized her.
Where are the others? Wigan asked her after the embrace.
Dead, she answered, all dead. It seems that we are the only ones who
survived the flood.
They walked around to see if they cound find some more survivors but they
did not find any. All they saw were dead bodies of men, animals and even
plants.
They scouted for a place where they could comfortably stay. They found a
place near the shore where plants starting to grow. They built a small hut
from the woods scattered around by the great flood. Then they buried the
stinking dead bodies the found near the shore.
Im hungry, said Bugan when they were already resting after burying the
dead bodies.
Me too, said Wigan. Stay here and I'll see if I can catch some fish in the sea.
Do you think there are fish there? Bugan asked him.
The plants are already growing abundantly. Perhaps the gods' wrath have
been pacified and the school of fishes have come back to the sea.
There were fishes in the sea all right. That night, they ate a sumptuous
supper of boiled fish. They spent the night sleeping together. After several
days, Bugan found herself pregnant. She went to the shore to drown herself
because she was ashamed of herself getting pregnant by his brother. But
before she could get near the deep part of the angry sea, an old man
appeared before her. He told her that he was Makanungan, the gods of the
Ifugaos. They got married by Makanungan and they had nine children, five
boys and four girls.
Then came a great famine. The soil produced poor harvest. They killed a rat
and offered it to Makanungan but the poor harvest continued.
What shall we do? Bugan asked her brother and later became her husband
Wigan one night while they were about to sleep. We will all die of hunger if
this poor harvest continues.
I don't know why Makanungan is angry with us. Perhaps he didn't like the
rat we offered him.
They all decided to kill Igon, the youngest, and offered him to Makanungan.
True enough, the poor harvest was abated. But Makanungan once again
appeared before them and told them that what they did to Igon was
outrageous. Then Makanungan scattered them to the four corners of the
earth, to the East and West and to the North and South. And as a curse to
what they did to Igon, they would fight everytime they come near each
other. ntroducing Me Lyrics
