Communication SMART Goal for Student S

During my first week of placement, I was introduced to a 12 year old student with
S Developmental Disability. She is non- verbal, has scoliosis, uses a wheelchair and
sometimes has seizures.

My goal is to Learn about the strategy Communication Temptation, then create an

activity that will allow her to take the initiative to ask for what she wants.

I overheard the Speech Therapist suggesting the use of this strategy to the
Educational Assistant and I offered to do it.

The setting is an Elementary School in a structured classroom grades 4 to 8.

She communicate using visual scripts after being prompted, but she need to learn
how to ask for something if it is possible.

I will measure my success once I have created 4-6 strategies that can be used to
M help students who are non-verbal to learn how to take the initiative to ask for what
they need without being prompted. My evidence will be using Board maker to
make visual scripts to create a Show Me matching game on Safety Signs. She could
choose where she would want to go for a walk observing the safety signs using
pecs.

A 1. My first step is to first talk to the Class Teacher/Educational Support

Worker more about her needs.
2. Research how to use Board Maker
3. Choose the pictures for script
4. Create Visual scripts
5. Using visual script to help her to model the desired behavior
6. Take her for walk using the safety sign pictures.
Possible barriers are: Sometimes the student is absent or frequently late so there is
R not enough time to model the strategy.

This should not be a problem because I will have to utilize the time wisely when
she is available. I will create the strategy and give to the Educational Assistant also.

Start Date: February 13th, finish: March 5th
