technology to be able to complete the following Word search, and scramble, the
children have a worksheet where they write out the definitions, synonyms parts of
speech and various other segments for each word, utensils
SpecEd student, with autism, will have a tablet to follow along on the PowerPoint
which has been uploaded to their tablet, as well as the vocab worksheet to fill out

Lead-In: this segment will take place in the middle of the day following a math
lesson so the Lead-In will be along the lines of Okay students, give me a V-O-C-A-
B! VOCAB! Whats that spell!? Vocab! Thats right! Take out your sheets,
lets get to learning!
Step-by-Step procedures:
Step 1: Introduce the lesson via the lead-in
Step 2: Use the PowerPoint to introduce vocabulary words, and provide definitions
for each word
Step 3: (to be done during step 2) have students fill out vocabulary sheet during
lesson. (SpecEd student will do this on their tablet.)
Independent practice:
Students will complete online worksheets, on the computers in the classroom, in
rotations, due to the limited number of computers.
To test comprehension, have students write a one page story using at least 5 of the
vocabulary words, this is to be done while waiting their turn for the computer/after
they have finished the computer worksheets.
(For the SpecEd student, there will be a program installed on the tablet where the
students comprehension can be observed through picture to word association, as
well as a version of the worksheets.)
Closure:
Okay students, give me an S-T-O-P? Stop! good job! Lets put our vocab sheets
away, turn in your stories, and stand behind your chairs for our brain-break
stretch! this brain break stretch is an exercise done so that our brains are able to
recognize that weve finished one lesson and are about to move on to the next, its
done at the end of every lesson. Each student is able to participate in this exercise
because though our SpecEd student suffers from social anxiety caused by autism,
this doesnt require very much interaction and is part of a pattern this child is used
to.
Assessment:
The students will turn in their one page stories, before moving on to the next
subject, this will be used as the assessment for the lesson.
(The program on the tablet for the SpecEd student will submit a score from the
picture to word association program, which will be uploaded to a cloud database
that can be accessed by the instructor)

Possible connections:
These words will come from books that weve read during our reading section,
words that have been difficult during our history lesson,
Also, these words will come from words students have heard in movies or, books
theyve read on their own time, which theyve brought to my attention, and I will
take the most common ones and incorporate them in the lesson.
