Standard:
NAfME Standard, MU Pr4.2.2b: Performing Analyze
When analyzing selected music, read and perform rhythmic and melodic patterns using
iconic or standard notation.

Objective:
Students will compare bars of music to make deductions about the implications of the
similarities.
Students will learn the solfege and rhythms of the song Apple Tree.
Students will learn a new solfege name and sign, la.
Students will perform the song, Apple Tree on solfege and text.

Lesson Plan:
1. Sing the song:

2. Rhythm (Display 1)
a. State observations about the song. Draw comparisons.
b. Speak through it using ta and ti-ti
c. Students clap or use their hand drums while speaking the rhythm

3. Identify Solfege (Display 2)


a. First measure sol and mi
b. Compare the first measure with the third measure (box 3).
c. Identify the last two beats of the song (box4).
d. Identify beat 1 in the last measure (box 4).

ii. Introduce new solfege with hand sign and name.

a. Ask the student helper to point to the solfege while I watch the class to see if they
are all doing the hand signs correctly.
