Directions:

This is a research assignment. Use your textbook, web articles, and NAU library
to conduct research when writing this paper.

Use APA style references and in-text- citations. You need to use at least 3
different resources besides Castronova (2002), and Moore (2015).

Part 1. DISCOVERY LEARNING:

Download and read the following article:

Castronova, J. A. (2002). Discovery learning for the 21st century:

What is it and how does it compare to traditional learning in
effectiveness in the 21st century. Action Research Exchange, 1(1), 1-

After reading this article and conducting additional research, answer
to the following questions.

What is discovery learning?

Discovery learning is an approach to learning that can be facilitated by particular

teaching methods and guided learning strategies (Castronova, J. A. (2002).

How does this form of teaching compare to traditional, teacher-centered

instruction?

Traditional learning will allude to the utilization of educating and instructional tactics

characteristically found in a teacher-led classroom, including didactic, drill and practice,

and expository learning, however, discovery learning technique helps students to learn in

a more synergistic environment and they similarly comprehend their inclinations about

the learned subjects. If we compare the two methods, The discovery learning technique

that is essential for the topic can be given more effectively and simple to remember to

compare to the traditional method. This system as well assistances student become more

effective for the reason that students learn the abilities needed for their classes. As stated

by Hardys (1967) archaeological study, discovery learning causes the students to show a

significant achievement in the topics more than the students who receive traditional

teaching.

What educational theories support the discovery learning model?

John Dewey, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Jerome Bruner, and Seymour Papert made some

theories for the discovery learning to establish its base. According to those theorists,

discovery learning is a method of inquiry-based learning and is considered a

constructivist based approach to education (Mayer, 2004)

What is the most important thing you discovered about discovery learning?

I believe that when students can find facts all alone as opposed to being lectured at by

teachers, the learning is more compelling for the reason that every student is effectively

involved in the process. I think the method will help the students recall the details about

the topic through a procedure of discovery period. As a result, students may be more

likely to remember concepts and knowledge discovered on their own (Bruner, J. S.,

2009).Educators can give students some problems, and request that they cooperate to

discover an answer for these problems. I believe that teachers can do this technique in

any classes in the meantime students love investigating things and this strategy will give

us powerful learning condition

How can you apply this method to your future classroom?

When I used this method in my class, I can begin by instructing the students the basics of

the technique. For instance, at the starting, I will have chosen what sort of questions I will

ask. I will then clarify the students how to discover sources about their assignments. I

will likewise show them how to get the essential data from these sources effortlessly. I

believe that students need to know how to bring together and compose these things

around their project and I have to help them succeed this. In discovery learning,

participants learn to recognize a problem, characterize what a solution would look like,

search for relevant information, develop a solution strategy, and execute the chosen
strategy. (Borthick, A. F. & Jones, D. R., 2000).

Part 2. ADDITIONAL CHAPTERS

Select one of the following chapters to conduct research: Chapter 2,
3, 5 or 12. Review the chapter and respond to related questions for
that chapter by conducting your own research.

Chapter 3- Managing Classroom Environment

1. Discipline approaches. Analyze the three approaches to classroom

management. Which approach, if any, do you prefer? Can you put together

parts of the different approaches and come up with an eclectic approach that

you think would work for you? Can you identify some basic concepts that

appear to be true of all three approaches?

SELF DISCIPLINE APPROACH: Teachers try to find some approaches to the

classroom management to be able to teach smoothly. As stated by Mathew Lynch

(2016) As your journey as a teacher starts to finally take shape, you will find that

there is no single method to use to manage a classroom effectively. Every day, an

educator can see different discipline cases. It is normal that teacher will need to find

different techniques to solve the problems. I believe that the most important thing

understand the problem. If you understanding problem, you can find the answer

because the answer not separate from the problem. The self-discipline approach is, for
the most part, acknowledged as the top technique for classes. It is characterized as

that student should be capable and repair their own errors by from anyone else.

INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH: This technique advises educator that to be

prepared and know the content makes class management much easier. According to

my experiments, if students do not understand the concept, they start to discipline

problems, As stated by Moore (2016) In other words, the instructional approach is

predicated on the assumption that well-planned and well-implemented lessons that

engage students in their own learning and afford them the opportunity to be

successful learners will prevent or solve most management problems.

DESIST APPROACH: This method recommends instructor is the one who is in

control for the discipline. This technique is practically the inverse of the self-

discipline for the reason that it is not student centered. In the method, the educator

needs to set certain procedures and make the students mindful of them. The discipline

rules should be clear. It gives students the clear thought that misbehavior has

outcomes and if students want positive results, they know how to accomplish them

Surrounded by the three approaches this technique and the instructional method are

more important to me and I want to attempt to set up classroom management with

those methodologies.

2. Causes of misbehavior. Think back over the classes you have attended in

which there have been disciplinary incidents. List the possible causes for any

such misbehavior. How might knowledge of the causes of these incidents

influence a teachers actions? Some behavior problems are teacher created

and some are student centered. Can you think of examples?

My educator experiments show me a lot of reasons that cause misbehavior problems. For

instance, students may misbehave since they are seeking attention or lack self-confidence

If there is a problem at home, for example, short sleep, it might prompt to misbehavior

during school hours. Learning disabilities and consideration problems are also sources of

misbehavior. Some children may have some physiological issues and this causes a

problem for them in the school too. Students can feel hungry, sick or may have family

troubles. They possibly don't the classroom environment or educator.
