Project Proposal
Neuroblastoma is a type of pediatric cancer that is created when cells called neuroblasts fail to
develop in the embryo and form a cancerous tumor. My research focuses on the different
treatment options for this cancer including a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, autologous
stem cell transplantation, 13-cis-retinoic acid, and tumor suppressors. This is important research
because neuroblastoma is such a vigorous disease that accounts for 6% of all pediatric cancer
cases, and requires the use of multiple methods to treat the disease. I have collected primary
research through conducting interviews with a professor of oncology, Dr. Srinivasan
Yegnasubramanian, and by documenting information I found in various clinical studies for
neuroblastoma. I also used different websites, academic journals, and articles to collect
secondary information on my topic. For my final product, I have started a club called Alexs
Lemonade Stand Foundation Club, which raises money and awareness for childhood cancer
research. We have conducted several bake sales throughout the year, and plan to donate all the
funds to this cancer foundation. The intended audience is the general public, including adults and
children.
