Summary of the Attack
June 12, 2016 Omar Mateen, 29 Year Old Security Guard, shot and killed 49
people while seriously injuring 53.
Occurred at Pulse a Gay Nightclub found in Orlando, Florida, USA.
9-1-1 was quickly called
Orlando Police Department reacted to the call & was quickly on scene
Mateen quickly pledged allegiance to ISIS powers
Mateen (shooter) & Orlando Law Enforcement engaged in a 3 hour standoff
Mateen was shot and killed on scene
Largest Attack in history on an LGBT community
Deadliest act of Terror on U.S. soil since the attacks of September 11th

Investigated for terrorist suspicion in 2013 &
2014, prior to the attack, but later removed
from the Terrorist Screening Database after
extensive research by the FBI.

Mateen was killed by 8 gunshot wounds on
scene of the attacks
 Motivations for the Attack
Mateem claims his allegiance to ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) is
responsible for the attack
He openly identified himself as Mujahideen or Islamic Soldier; Soldier of God
In short, this devotion for religion motivated him to commit this act of terror
Mateem claims he was triggered by the death of ISIL commander, Abu Wahib,
that happened six weeks prior.
The airstrike that killed his commander set a fire in Mateem that fueled his hate.
This hate bottled up, able to escape six weeks later, on June 12, 2016.
Results & Responses of the Attack
49 Killed on scene, 53 seriously injured.

49 families & one community left in distress.
The night club remained closed & unoccupied before being taken over by the city of
Orlando.
The city & nightclub owners though it was only fitting to turn the club into a Museum and
Memorial to honor both the fallen & to support not only the LGBT community but the
Hispanic, Orlando community as well.
Theyre currently unsure about what the memorial will consist of, but they intend to take a
long creating process to ensure its class.
They want to be sure it is something the community as well as the rest of the nation can be
proud of.
Countless communities around the nation reached out in support of Orlando
Many organized parades, fundraisers, and memorials in honor of Orlando and the LGBT
community
