engineeringapplications,suchasmechanicalandphysicalpropertytests,nondestructive
evaluation,metallography,failureanalysisandfracturemorphologies,corrosiontesting,chemical
analysis,surfacecharacterization,microanalysisofsurfaces,andweartesting,arerelevant.

Allmanuscripts,includingsymposiapapers,willbereviewedinaccordancewithstandardreview
criteriatoensurehightechnicalqualitybyoneortwoqualifiedreviewers,assignedbytheEditor
oranAssociateEditor.Thereviewersshalleachsubmitarecommendationtotheeditorialoffice

PUBLICATIONETHICS

Submissionforpublicationisrepresentationthatneitherthemanuscriptnorthebasic
informationinthemanuscripthasbeencopyrighted,published,orsubmittedforpublication
elsewhere.Priorpublicationisabasisforrejectionexceptunderspecialcircumstances,such
asappearanceasaninternalorganizationalreportorexpandedversionsofaconferenceor
symposiumproceedingswithlimitedcirculation.Thepriorpublicationhistoryshouldbeclearly
notedonthemanuscript.Ifthemanuscriptisunderapriorcopyrightbutstillappropriatefor

Reviews:Authorswhointendtowriteextensivereviewsareinvitedtosubmitanextended
abstract(400500words)andalistingofsectionheadingstotheEditorpriortosubmissionof
thecompletemanuscript.Itisexpectedthatthispriordiscussionandplanningofthepaperwill
facilitaterapidpublication.

PeerReviewedPapers:Manuscriptsshouldrepresentcompletedoriginalworkembodyingthe
resultsofextensivefield,plant,laboratory,ortheoreticalinvestigation,ornewinterpretationsof
existingproblems.Materialmustbeconsideredtohavesignificantpermanentvalue.

ManuscriptPreparation.TheEditorandtheAssociateEditorsreservetherighttoreturna
papertotheauthorwithoutfurtherreviewifintheiropiniontheEnglishisofapoorquality.

ManuscriptsresubmittedwhichfailtoaddresstheconcernsofJMEPreviewersmaybe
rejectedanddebarredfromfurthersubmittal.Paperswhichhavebeenrejectedaftertwo
submissionswillnotbeacceptedbythejournalifsubmittedagainunlessintheopinionofthe
editoritcanbeconsideredasanewsubmission.

MANUSCRIPTPREPARATION

1.ManuscriptssubmittedtoJMEPshouldbebasedonWordfileswithonlyessentialformatting
included(Bold,Italic,etc.).Anyextraneousformatting(doublecolumntext,embedded
figures/tables,marginadjustments,etc.)shouldberemoved.Manuscripttext,references,
figurecaptions,andtablesshouldallbeincludedinonesingledocument.Tablesandfigures
shouldbeseparatelyincludedafterthereferencesection.Highqualityartworkshouldbe
includedasseparatefiles.Allfiguresmustbelabeled,numbered,andnumericallycitedinthe
textofthemanuscript.

2.Submitartatprintsizeasseparate.tifor.jpgfilesat300DPIresolutionforphotosand
micrographs,at1200DPIresolutionforlinedrawings,andat600DPIforcombination
grayscale/linedrawings.Finalmanuscriptswithpoorqualityfiguresandmicrographs,which
areunlikelytoreproduceproperly,maybereturnedtotheauthoruntilbetterqualityfiguresare
suppliedevenifthepaperhasbeenacceptedforpublication.ArtembeddedintoaWord
documentdefaultsto72DPI,resultinginlowresolutionnotsuitableforprintproduction.
However,forreviewpurposesfiguresmaybeembeddedinaWorddocumentinadditionto
submittalasseparatefiles.Allmicrographsmustincludemicronmarkers.Thejournalreserves
therighttoreturnthemanuscripttotheauthor,ifintheviewoftheEditor,thesubmittedfigures
andmicrographsareofpoorqualityandimpedeafairandobjectivereview.Inordertoensure
readability,figuresandartworkshouldbesubmittedinaformsuitableforpublicationinblack
andwhite,unlesstheauthorplanstopayforcolorintheprintversion.

andexperimentalprocedures.Itshouldbeconciseandinformativeandlimitedtolessthan
200words.Theabstractshouldprovideadescriptivesummaryofthemajorfindingsofthe
research.

6.TherequiredReferenceformatisshowninthesectionentitledSTYLINGOFREFERENCES.
Referencetounpublishedworkthatisdifficulttoobtainshouldbeavoidedunlessitis
