RR#7: Theories

In Wilson and peterson's book, Theories of Learning and teaching what do

they mean for educators? They question the purpose of student learning and
how teachers have a responsibility to create opportunities for experience and
inquiry for the students, but also themselves. They do this by going into detail
about how students learn according to experience, behavior, and community.
They expand this idea by telling about the different ways students learn and the
learning is not specific to one way or type. Specifically, teachers want students to
be able to use the information obtained and know how to apply it critically. Even
the basics are challenging if one truly understands them (source). Learning is a
challenge for both teacher and student which creates a mutual respect for one
another in the classroom.
I agree with Wilson when she says there are times when a teacher must
and should tell, and other times when teachers should inquire, using their
classrooms as laboratories for their own learning. Because although a student
might be eager to learn, that eagerness a can be a fire fueled by the energy to
know the information. Students can be inspired to learn from one another and
teachers can be inspired to learn from their students. This is what I hope to do in
my classroom. Furthermore, I have already experienced this type of learning
which is why I have been inspired to do the same. I hope that teachers can
self-reflect and evaluate so they can better their teaching by incorporating this
type of learning.
