Applications from Indian citizens are invited in the prescribed form (appended below) for filling up the
following purely temporary positions in a time bound project in CSIR-NIIST at Thiruvananthapuram:
SMART (Sustainable Metalcasting using Advanced Research and Technology) Foundry 2020 is a collaborative
project sanctioned under DST-TSD programme since September 2016. This project is an initiative by a
national network of researchers and entrepreneurs from Institutes like CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram IIT-
Bombay, Mumbai, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur, VNIT, Nagpur and Jadavpur University Kolkata, to enable a
system for faster manufacture of small size intricate metal parts with better quality (than conventional sand
casting), lower cost (compared to machining or 3D metal printing) and minimal human intervention by
making use of cutting-edge technologies such as 3D CAD, process simulation, 3D printing, rapid tooling, and
process data analytics.
IIT-Bombay and CSIR-NIIST are collaborating in three modules viz., Casting Design & Simulation, efficient
melting & direct casting and data sensing and analytics.
The project staff positions at CSIR-NIIST would be involved in Multiphysics Casting Simulation software
package with collaboration with IIT-Bombay, Powai, Mumbai and development of online porting, visualization
and data analytics engines based on state of art IoT technologies.

Mode of Selection:
Applications received upto 5.30 PM on 07-03-2017 completed in all respect, will be shortlisted by a duly
constituted committee for which they will adopt their own criteria. Such shortlisted candidates will be
called for written test/interview at IIT Bombay, Powai, Mumbai- 400076. A list of shortlisted
candidates will be displayed on NIIST website (www.niist.res.in) after 14th March 2017.
1. The engagement is for time bound project and the candidate is required to work mainly for the successful
completion of the project.
2. All applicants must fulfil the essential requirements of the post and other conditions stipulated in the
advertisement as on the last date for receipt of application i.e. 07-03-2017. The prescribed qualifications
should have been obtained through recognized Universities/Institutions etc.
3. The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum and the mere possession of the same does not
entitle candidates to be shortlisted to be called for written test/interview. The duly constituted screening
committee will adopt its own criteria for short-listing the candidates. The candidate should therefore,
mention in the application all the qualifications and experiences in the relevant area over and above the
minimum prescribed qualification, supported with documents.
4. Tenure of the JRF will be initially for a period of one year and will be extendable on need basis based on
performance. The Institute reserves the right to terminate the assignment at any time before completion of
the tenure of engagement, if it so decides.
5. Place of posting: The selected candidates will be posted at CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram. However, they
will have to travel to other institutes during the project duration as and when required.
6. Venue of interview: The shortlisted candidates will have to report at IIT Bombay, for written test/interview
on the date & time which will be mentioned in their call letter.
7. Only those whose final results have been declared as on 07-03-2017 will be eligible.
8. No travelling or any other allowances is admissible for attending the written test/interview.
9. The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and/or experience will be 07-03-2017.
10. The period of experience in a discipline/area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted after the date of
acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualifications prescribed for that Grade.
11. Persons with disabilities (PwD) fulfilling the eligibility conditions prescribed under GOI instructions are
encouraged to apply.
12. The decision of NIIST/CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode
of selection, conduct of written test/interview will be final and binding on the candidates.
13. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing any influence political or otherwise will be treated as a
disqualification for the post.
Relaxations:
a. The upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC as per Government
orders in force. Candidates seeking age relaxation under these categories should enclose attested
copy of the relevant certificate in the prescribed format signed by the specified authority.
b. Age relaxation to Persons with Disability (PwD): Age relaxation of 5 years is allowed (10 years for
SCs/STs, 8 years for OBCs) to persons suffering from (a) blindness or low vision (VH), (b) hearing
impairment (HH) and (c) locomotor disability or cerebral palsy (OH). The persons claiming age
relaxation under this sub-para would be required to produce a certificate in prescribed proforma in
support of their claims clearly indicating that the degree of physical disability is 40 % or more. In any
case, the engagement of these candidates will be subject to their being found medically fit in
accordance with the standards of medical fitness as prescribed by the Government for posts to be
filled by Direct Recruitment by Selection.
c. Relaxation of five years will also be permissible to those who had ordinarily been domiciled in the
Kashmir division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from 1.1.1980 to 31.12.1989
subject to production of relevant certificate from concerned authority.

support of age, educational qualifications, experience, re-prints of publications and caste certificate,
if applicable, should be sent in an envelope superscribed Application for the post of

5.30PM on 07-03-2017.
c. Candidates applying for more than one post should submit separate applications in separate

f. Candidates should specifically note that the applications received after the 07-03-2017 for any
reason whatsoever (such as envelopes wrongly addressed, delivered elsewhere, postal delay etc.) will
not be entertained by CSIR-NIIST.
