Resources/Materials/Equipment:

Introduction:

The lesson will begin with the teacher reading a passage from the 1916 rising and the
children have to enact it out around the classroom. Music will be played in background to
create atmosphere.
Once the story is finished the children will think, pair, share about the 1916 rising to
acquire prior knowledge of the subject area.
We will brainstorm on the interactive white board words that have come up and we will do
a talk and discussion around it.

Development:

As a way into history, story will be read to class.

The teacher throughout will stop to ask questions such as:
1. How do you think he feels?
2. Ask children for predictions?
3. Ask children for alternative endings?
Having discussed alternative endings, the children will sit down and write a journal on
their feelings from their day pretending they are Patrick on stained paper that has
previously been created in art.

Conclusion:

To conclude the children will work collaboratively in groups of three or four on an

agreed scene taking different roles which will be decided in each group.
Each group will then act out their scene in a carousel rotation to display their
alternative ending.
