7 (a) A bracket transmits a load of 80 KN at an eccentricity of 30 cm to a L CO
column through 10 bolts of 22mm diameter arranged in two vertical rows of 1
10cm apart. The pitch of the bolts is 8cm and the load lies in the plane of
bolts. Calculate the maximum stress in the bolts.

butt joint using 8mm thick cover plates. Find the strength of the joint if M16 A 1
bolts of grade 4.6 and Fe 415 plates are used.
