The Blood Oath by A F Norris.
Words muttered
In a frantic ramble
That space in the air consumed it
Quick whispers
A tongue to the anvil.
Between life and death
Rumbling breath
A deep chasm in the chest
Sucked in then let out
Absorbed by lonely space
Shaking hands
Pale face
The heart beating cadence
Then it fluttered like a wayward kite
Away...to be gone
a way to die
Those oaths without ears
Promises made
Left with the life
That bobbed
And twisted
Away to sky

Analysis
This poem uses imagery, metaphors and personification to convey the meaning of something on
the brink of life or death, and their life depends on what decision they decide to make. First, it
uses imagery by visualizing the frantic rambling and muttered words. Second, t uses metaphors
with the oaths spoken without ears, meaning that no one was around to hear their final words.
Lastly, it uses personification with the air consuming the muttered words.

Wretchedness by The Final Door

Invariably seeking for a Soul
Mines been tainted with Repentance
Apathetic and Bulging my body has become;
Worried eyes makes for a sore head
I feel alone in this fight
A maiden left to ponder his curse
Defeated deadbeat circling the past
Wondering where he went wrong;
The World is already on fire
Innocents die within high number
Tragedy bears witness to this altar
I have no control over my state
Pondering for little desires
Each words eat away lost time
Oh where did I go wrong?
I can't withdraw myself..
I need a lost ego..
To fight each coming day.

Analysis
This poem uses metaphors and tone to convey the message of someone who has done much
wrong seeking to make up for what hes done. It uses metaphors with the seeking of a soul and
how its theirs has been tainted with repentance, It uses a tone that is hopeless yet hopeful at
the same time to convey that while all hope seems lost, there is a tiny amount left to salvage.

Show us the Day by John H Ford

Am I to travel on in darkest night
With no glimmer of hope?
Or am I justified in believing
That there has been a reason.

Will a ghostly hand guide me

Through the thorny ways?
Is it possible you are part
Of the plan?

Oh my heart cries out

For someones approval
Guidance, where is your light?
Who do I turn to for confirmation?
The air is chilled
Still black the night.

Cheeks blushed with rose dust

Words spoken in innocence
My heart awakened
By words unknowingly spoken.

I see a light, quite possibly a star

But with distance Im unconcerned
For my feet are no longer
Aching from the journey

Wisdom, bind my hands and guide me

For I want to be shown the way
If you lead I will follow
Please my heart, show us the day.

Analysis
This poem uses imagery and onomatopoeia to convey the message that there is a need for the
darkness of night to end and for their to be light in life once again. It uses imagery with the
ghostly hand and the light, quite possibly a star. It uses onomatopoeia when the narrators
heart cries out to convey the desire and desperation in this situation.

Connection to Topic
The theme and message that all these poems share is that a dark time emerged and there seems to
be little hope that it will ever end, but theres a small glimmer of hope nonetheless. These poems
and their themes can be connected to the Video Game Crash of 1983 because the theme of little
hope that the dark times will ever end is similar to this event for the North American video
game industry. If the industry did end up dead for good, it could have resulted in hundreds of
thousands of jobs lost. The people who worked at video game companies during this time period
were most likely treated with very little respect because of how quickly video games were
becoming what the general public called a fad. How this can be connected to the poems is that
people who worked at video game companies probably felt that there was no hope for them or
the industry, which meant that they would be jobless and would end up looking for a new job.
The crash is similar to The Blood Oath by A. F. Norris in that if the industry ended up dead for
good, it would become mostly forgotten about entirely, and thus, oaths without ears. The event
is similar to Wretchedness by The Final Door because if these people lost their jobs, most of
them technically did nothing wrong, and would be losing their jobs for something that wasnt
even their fault in the grand scheme of things. The crash is also similar to Show us the Day by
John H. Ford because during the event, it appeared that there was no glimmer of hope for the
industry, and that it would fade into obscurity for good unless the light it needed shined upon it.
