Former Vice President, Joe Biden, Excites a Crowd

of
University of Delaware Students

On Friday April 7th, hundreds of University of Delaware students

cheered and rallied for the appearance of the former Vice President of the
United States, and one of the Universitys most famous alumni, Joe Biden.
Despite the gloomy cold weather, staff and students from UD welcomed
Biden with warm hearts.

Tanvi Walia, 20, a communications major at the University was skipping

a rigorous statistics class just to see Biden speak. Biden has always been an
inspiration for me. Not many politicians stick around Delaware says Walia.

Prior to Bidens arrival on stage, the University of Delaware handed out

T-Shirts reading Biden is Back. Music was blaring and big screens on each
side of the stage featured students tweets and shared information about the
time period when Biden attended the University himself.

As Biden entered the stage, the crowd roared; some stood in the cold
for 2 hours just to see him speak. There was no doubt that the University was
honored and proud to have Biden back on campus. Biden is one of the best
politicians of all time! said John Kempski, 27, a local United States Postal
worker, who attended Bidens speech on his lunch break. Kempski didnt
want to miss out on the opportunity to see the former Vice President live and
in person. If I were to become a politician, I would want to be just like Joe.
Hes the realist said Kempski.

Joe Biden was welcomed on stage by the president of University of

Delaware, Dr. Dennis Assanis, and University of Delaware students and
Alumni. The crowed chanted Biden is Back while the Universitys cheer
team performed. The crowed was overwhelmed with excitement as Biden
entered the stage.

Biden not only spoke about his new Biden Institute, in which he plans
to establish at the University of Delaware, but about the potential and power
that rests in the student body. Biden shared his college experience of being
on the deans hit list. He reminded students that when he attended the
University, the Vietnam war was in full effect and addressed students who
think times are tough by saying Youve aint seen nothing kid. The Goal of
the Biden Institute is to create a World class intellectual center and a
destination for scholars, policy makers and world leaders. The mission of the
Biden Institute is to influence and shape the work thats going on in this
nation and to solve some of the toughest problem facing the nation.
 Biden began many of his campaigns on University of Delawares
campus and he is now coming back to where it all began. He believes this
generation of college students is the most engaged generation in the
history of the United States of America. Biden believes this generation of
college students is the most tolerant and best educated generation too, but
not engaged enough in politics which he wants to change.

The Crowd left Bidens speech feeling inspired and in awe and students
are looking forward to his impact and work within the University.
