Research Proposal: Benefits of Autonomous Cars

Humans have been pondering the idea of self driving cars since the first automobiles

rolled on to the streets of America. Despite massive advancements in technology the way people

interact with cars has remained more or less the same. Autonomous cars have the potential to

revolutionize the way we interact with cars. This paper will focus on the immense benefits of self

driving cars and some of the ethical dilemmas and how to solve them. This project will explore

scholarly articles and journals about the benefits of self driving cars. Additionally, I will

interview an engineer working with autonomous cars in the Detroit area to investigate safety and

environmental impact of self driving cars. I hope that the research shows people the value of this

technology and influence them in adopting the technology in the near future. Autonomous cars

have the potential to reduce vehicular fatalities and improve efficiency on roads, which leads to

lower fuel emissions and a reduced carbon footprint.

Thesis statement: The widespread implementation of autonomous cars will have a positive

environmental impact, make the roads safer, and save lives.
