Piaget was an extremely smart man, both a biologist and a

In this stage (0 2 years old) there begins to emerge
some recognition as well as use of memory and thought. For maximum development in this stage a stimulating environment is needed so that the subject can begin to make associations and learn basic coordination and motor skills. In this stage object permanence is usually present.

able to associate symbols with their meaning. Reading and writing skills are also beginning to develop. Subjects are usually quite egocentric thinking only of them selves with difficulty putting themselves in someone elses perspective. Shown with the cups and water, perception mass and velocity skills are still not fully developed.
