Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the
creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution.
Copyright law is the right of an author based on whether the work
actually is an original, rather than if its unique. Typically, a work must
meet minimal standards of originality in order to qualify for copyright,
and the copyright expires after a set period of time, some jurisdictions
allow this to be extended.
The length of time copyrights are upheld can depend on many factors,
including the type of work, for example musical composition. Whether
the work has been published, or the work was created by an individual
or a corporation. In most of the world, the default length of copyright is
the life of the author, 50 or 70 years.
