Client Needs
A new digital channel, The Grid, is due to be launched next year. They have
identified their target audience as 18 to 30 year olds and are aiming to broadcast a
mix of music videos, imported American sitcoms and youth orientated chat shows.
They need me to originate and plan a TV ident for the channel sand in the next
assignment I will produce it.
Ideas
To help me in the process of picking which video clips I will include in my TV ident
for The Grid I have listed six different options for each heading below this will help
me to narrow my list down to 4 different choices for each headings so that I am
showing a variety of shows and music within my ident.
Sitcoms
Friends
The Goldbergs
Baby Daddy
Modern Family
New Girl
Brooklyn Nine Nine
Music Video
Storyboards
As I am creating a logo for my TV ident I had to
create a storyboard of that logo so that I knew the
exact design of my logo. My Logo is THE GRID in a
futuristic design and font so that It appeals to my
target audience. The background colour of my logo
will be two bright and contrasting colours that will
blend into each other in the middle of the logo. Im
not sure which two colours yet as I will see what
looks best when I actually start to create my logo.
Dope Sheets
I had to create dope sheets so that I can highlight how my clips are going to go
together and in what order they will be played. Basically how my whole ident will
play out. On my dope sheets I have not specified what transition and onscreen
effects I will use as I will decide on them as I am creating my ident.
Script
In the first scene of my ident my logo will transition onto the screen so that the
viewer knows what they are watching straight away. After my logo the ident will
then go on to showing short 1-2-second-long clips from the chat shows, sitcoms and
music videos that I have chosen to use, each clips will also have a transition effect
on it. Finally, the last scene of my ident will show the logo again but have a voice
over saying The Grid I think will be effective as it also speaks to the viewer
directly.
Demographics
Looking at my client brief I see the only information I get on my target audience is
that it is 18-30 year olds. Seeing that there has been no specific gender stated this
must mean I would need to tailor my ident to both gender and make sure Im not
being gender specific as people may end up getting offended.
Logo Design
To help create my logo I went onto Google Images and
searched for TV logos and took
elements and ideas from some of
them and incorporated them into
my logo.
Colour Scheme
For my colour scheme I picked these two colours as I thought
they were bright enough to attract attention. I thought the two
colours contrasted with each other but were also similar enough
to not look out of place. These are also the colours that I will blend
together within my logo.
Music
The only music within my ident will be
from when the music video clips are
playing.
Sound
Other sound within my ident like sound
effects and audio will be from the sitcom
and chat show clips and at the end of the
ident. I will put some sound effects between each clip as they transition into another
and there will be a voice over at the end of the ident to say the name of the
channel.

Format
There is going to be many different formats that I will be
saving files as during this project, these are;
Copyright Laws
Copyright
Copyright is a legal right created by the country that gives the original creator of a
piece of work the exclusive rights of use and distribution. Before this act was
created there was very little anyone who created something could legally if
someone steal their work for their own. The Copyright designs and patents act was
created in 1988 and can cover anything anyone has created including songs,
videos, pictures and text. This law can protect somebodys creation up until 50
years after their death. I need to take the copyright law in to consideration whilst
creating my advert, as I will be using videos that have been taken off the internet. I
would be able to register to copyright my product online instead of having to go to
any office straight away I could use the UK Copyright Service (Link:
https://secure.copyrightservice.co.uk/). To register for copyright seems easy to do
on the internet, I have placed a screenshot of what information is required to apply
to the right. To apply for copyright online costs money whereas to do it formally it is
free. I will place a screenshot of the charges section below. As I will be using text,
pictures and videos in my product I will need to do some research into the pictures I
use as they could be copyrighted by the owner and if I use them in my advert I
could get into trouble by the law.
Ethical Considerations
When you are working on any type of
media that can be viewed or heard by
another person taking into consideration the ethical Screenshot of UK Copyright Service
Racism
(White/Black)
Gender (Male/Female)
Sexuality (Hetero/Homosexual)
Disability (Able bodied/Other)
Nationality (British/Other)
Class (Working/Middle/Upper)
Regionalism (North/South)
Age (Young/Old)
These considerations mean that you cannot refer to either group as inferior to one
another as people can be offended. If you do not take these factors into
consideration the company could be sued and the production not allowed to be
shown.
There are some laws that go in place with these ethical considerations. For example,
it is against the law to discriminate against;
Age
Sexual Orientation
Race
Gender
Religion
It is vital that I take ethics into consideration as I do not want to be sued so need to
be as balanced as possible. My advert target audience is 14-17, therefore I cannot
be one sided to either gender or age group whilst writing my text as someone could
get offended. My product will incorporate picture and videos so I need to be careful
that there are no inferior opinions in the videos and I also need to have written
permission of someone to say I can use the videos.

Hardware Requirements
I will only need a few pieces of
hardware during this project. I will need a
computer to; edit my videos and
pictures and to create my final ident. I may
also need a USB Memory stick to store my
files on.
Software Requirements
I will need 5 pieces of software to be able to complete this
project, these are;
