YEAR 9 & 10 WEDNESDAY SPORT SESSION 2 NOTE 2017

Sport Selections Week 8

Students can sign up to their chosen sport on School Bytes (using their student DET portal username and password).
Students are required to select 3 sports in case they miss out on their first preference. The above link will be open to
the students from 8.00am 16th March (YEAR 10) & 17th March (YEAR 9). This will stay open for a week and will close on
Friday 24th March at 4.00pm. Students will be able to go back into School Bytes on the 24th March after 4.00pm to see
what sport you have been allocated to.

Grade/Recreational Sport
During Session 2 there is the option to participate in either Grade Sport or Recreational Sport. Grade Sport is a
competition on a home and away basis against other high schools in the North Shore Zone. These schools are: Forest,
Willoughby, Davidson, Killarney & Cammeraygal. All grade sports cost $60 to cover bus hire, uniform and equipment
maintenance. Recreational Sports are all other physical activity options listed on page 3, catering to a wide range of
interests. Whenever students leave the school they are accompanied by staff on buses to and from the appropriate
venues.

Grade Sport Trials Week 9


Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th March at lunch time

Students will be notified of trials prior. Girls missing out on a Grade Team are automatically allocated to their 2nd
preference they chose on School Bytes.

Payment and Permission Notes Week 10


Year 9 Tuesday 28th March in PE classes

Year 10 Friday 31st March in PE classes

Parents will receive an email with a link to the Parent Online Payment (POP) as well as a generated permission note
which needs to be signed and handed in. This can also be found online via the school website www.nbscmgirls-
h.schools.nsw.edu.au select Make a Payment. Permission notes will be collected during PE lessons in week 10,
payment due 31st March. PLEASE DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOUR CHILD/WARDS SPORT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FRIDAY on 24th
March.

Waivers
Extra waivers are compulsory for certain sports (listed below with an *). If you would like to participate in that
sport. Please have these printed from the links provided and hand in with the permission note. These can either
be found on the organisation website or on School Bytes when students are allocated to their sport.

Session 2 Sport Dates


Wednesday 26th April 2017 (week 1, term 2) until Wednesday 30th August 2017 (week 7, term 3)

Please note, Wednesday 3rd May is the school Cross Country and therefore, there will be no Grade or Rec sport this day.

INFORMATION

1. Team Sports and Badminton/Table tennis at school are dismissed at 2:45pm while Grade and Recreational sports at a venue are
dismissed at 2.30pm unless a student is returning to school. Team sport and badminton students are still required to hand in a
permission note on payment day, to allow them to leave school at 2.45pm. Students who do not have permission to leave early
from the venue, must remain at school until 3.14pm.

2. In the case of wet weather students enrolled in outdoor sports who have permission to leave early will be dismissed from school at
2.35pm (4C bell). Students without permission to leave early from their sport venue will remain until 3.14pm. A decision regarding
wet weather will not be made until 11.00am on a Wednesday. In the event of wet weather or a venue being unavailable an
alternate sport program may run if space within the school allows this.

3. MISBEHAVIOUR at sport will result in the removal of a student from that sport for either a week or longer if required. No refund
given. Students will remain in non-sport until 3.14pm.

4. If you are injured or unwell then you are to provide a note and attend NON SPORT for the afternoon until 2.35pm (4C). Only under
exceptional circumstances will a student be issued with a leave pass from the front office.

5. Students not dressed in the correct PE uniform for Sport will attend non-sport for that week, unless permission has been given by a
parent/guardian and approved by a Deputy.

6. SPORT is a mandatory DEC Course. Students must satisfy all course requirements (attendance, participation and effort) to be eligible
for their ROSA.

7. School bags and valuables will be secured in rooms at outside venues wherever possible.

Using the facilities at MW Rec Centre, students take part in Futsal skills, drills and match play. Students walk to and from
the venue accompanied by a teacher and with permission to leave at 2.30pm students may be dismissed from the
venue.
052-033 Squash Manly Warringah Recreation Centre $60
Students will have 4 weeks with a coach, learning basic skills and drills. After the coaching sessions, students will take
part in match play, led by a teacher. Students walk to and from the venue accompanied by a teacher and with
permission to leave at 2.30pm students may be dismissed from the venue.

052-021 Tennis Manly Warringah Recreation Centre $100


Students will have 4 weeks with a coach, learning basic skills and drills. After the coaching sessions, students will take
part in match play, led by a teacher. Students walk to and from the venue accompanied by a teacher and with
permission to leave at 2.30pm students may be dismissed from the venue.

052-031 Self Defence/ Wyllie Taekwondo $150


Taekwondo A form of martial arts, practiced in a safe and inclusive environment, led by experienced instructors. This is held at Manly
Vale Community Centre, where students walk to and from the venue accompanied by a teacher.

052-035 Pilates Body & Balance Pilates $180


A complete mind-body work out, designed to strengthen the core, while improving balance, concentration, alignment
and relaxation. This is held at St Keirans Church Hall. Students walk to and from the venue accompanied by a teacher
and with permission to leave at 2.30pm students may be dismissed from the venue.

052-025 *Rock Climbing Brookvale Rockhouse $250

A challenging and exciting option. Rockclimbing is a great way to improve upper body strength, while working on your
cardiovascular fitness. These classes are run by experienced and qualified instructors. Students travel to and from the
venue by bus however with permission, students may be dismissed from the venue.

052-055 Bikram Yoga Bikram Yoga, Brookvale $260


Bikram Yoga Youth classes are specifically tailored to teenagers with huge benefits as they go through many physical
changes. It can help to improve flexibility, lower stress and anxiety, increase stamina and endurance, improve self-
esteem and revitalises energy. For youth bikram the room may be slightly heated during cooler months only, at the
teachers discretion. Students will need to bring their own towel with them to these classes. Students travel to and from
the venue by bus, however with permission, students may be dismissed from the venue.

Mall Students alternate between group exercise classes and gym floor sessions, all led by qualified Fitness Instructors.

Xtend Barre is Pilates and dance amplified. It brings in elements of dance, ballet and Pilates to create an adrenaline-
fueled workout. Each class features an elegant yet energetic combination of movements that enhance flexibility,
improve balance, and challenge the core. Students will need to bring socks with grip on the bottom to these classes.
Students travel to and from the venue by bus however with permission, students may be dismissed from the venue.

Aerial silks is a performance style art in which participants perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a special
apparatus such as aerial silk, static trapeze or aerial ring. Students travel to and from the venue by bus however with
permission, students may be dismissed from the venue.

school. There will be no medical reason which should preclude her from this activity. If her first choice is

Permission to leave early

Swimming ability
If your child has selected a water activity (Beach sports, Kayaking/SUP, Surfing/Body Boarding) please indicate below,
your child/wards swimming ability. Note: For all water activities students must wear a RASH VEST or T-SHIRT over the
top of their swimwear.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: Parents please note there is no personal injury insurance cover provided by the NSW Department of Education and Training for students in
relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other activity. Parents and caregivers are advised to access the level and extent of their childs
involvement in the sport program offered by the school, school sport zone, area and state school sport associations when deciding whether additional insurance
cover, above that provided by Medicare, is required. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets. The NSW
Supplementary Sporting Injuries Benefits Scheme, funded by the NSW Government, covers any injury resulting in the permanent loss of a prescribed faculty or the
use of some prescribed part of the body. I acknowledge that participating in any physical activity has an inherent risk of injury. I further authorise and appoint
Mackellar Girls Staff to take all the steps on my behalf as it may think fit to obtain medical or associated treatment on my behalf in relation to any illness or injury
suffered.
