How is the dark side of a modern city represented in a crime fiction genre?

The
crime fiction genre ill be using is the life and crimes of harry lavender by marula
day. Day grew up in Sydney and graduated form the university of Sydney shes sues
her experience as living in Sydney and demonstrates how a city is evolving through
its technological l advances the corruption in the underworld and the city itself as it
evolves to a more modern world and telling us a story about a detective on her
mission to find the murder of mark Bannister. The themes I will be taking about are
setting, gender, technology and dual narrative.
Day subverts the genre of crime fiction through the sue of female protagonist.
Claudia is a strong female character whose role is to break down the male stereo
types exceptions and to challenge the male dominated world of the fictional crime
fighter. Seen in an example from the opening chapter Claudia says no one get into

independent personality that women wont have in the male dominated world. In
another example if I can get pass the cowboys being a woman is a distant
advantage, Day uses the technique Anecdote to show how in some cases women
have more advantage over men this challenges the serotype on how only men can
be detectives and be the one saving the day. The examples above show how day
sues the novel to demonstrate the dark side of modern life from the theme gender
in examples such as how Claudia has control of her life in a male dominated world
when she says her legs are her weapon and how women can have an advantage
over men in the role of an effective.
The second theme setting is used as analogy to the event the action that is taking

The third theme technology is used as an dangerous game as it has a good side to it

Bannisters death and implying he was behinf changing the program of his
pacemaker which ultimately caused his death. Day sues this to demonstrate the

symbolism bees to Harrys thugs who do the dirty work for him and chips referring
to the computer chips that store and process information. In another example just
above the glass facades and older facades behind the blatant signs are hidden

as having a faade and discusses the history od Sydney being hidden by new

the dark side of the city hidden by technology and development.
The last theme Dual narration is used in the life and crimes of harry lavender by
Days to show how Harry and Claudia see the world. In an example at the going
down of the citys son and the mourning they will remember. Days uses the
technique textual allusion to show harry is maluplating and changing the Anzac
poem to homogous words to show how the poem sounds the same at the same time
the meaning is different electing Lavender to heroic status. In another example days
use the technique Metaphor in quote I will not be the sickly masterpieces hiding in
