Audrey Hepburn Biography

Have you ever heard of lady who is well-known for her acting and her fashion

statements? The beloved, gorgeous Audrey hepburn is mostly known for her prestige

outfits and her slim, curvy body as well as her acting in movies such as, Breakfast at

Tiffanys. Her successful career brought herself into the spotlight, but also her kind-

heartedness. Audrey dedicated her early years donating to a charity to help the less-

fortunate as well as being an ambassador for the UNICEF foundation. Audrey made a

long lasting effect on the fashion industry. She branded history with such a positive

aspect and one of the most admired figures in history. Audrey Hepburn was an actress,

turned fashion icon, whose life inspired millions of people and left a legacy for generations to

come.

After retiring from lead roles in films, audrey devoted herself to help others in need. She

used her popularity to gain supporters and raised tons of money to help the less-

fortunate. Audrey promoted UNICEF through her speeches, interview and different

events. Audrey was also appointed as the goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. Audrey not

only functioned as the organizations figurehead, but, also traveled to the worlds

poorest Nations to aid the impoverished children. Audrey traveled to Africa, Asia, and

Latin America, where her responsibility was to attract attention to serious issues and

help the children regain what they didn't have. Audrey participated in numerous press

conferences where she was redirected to work in the field where she delivered food, gave

immunization and also gave emotional support to children in need. President George

Bush presented Audrey with the Presidential medal of Freedom. Growing up during

WW2 is a very tragic time to grow up in. Audrey was different from a lot of kids when

she was growing up, she was shy but had extravagant imagination. Audrey was a great

beauty - tall and slim, with a pixie haircut that drew more emphasis to her strong cheekbones

and big, dark eyes. She was naturally slim, not starved like so many modern actresses. Her grace

was born of a dancer's training and it meant that she wore even the simplest item of clothing

with extra flair.(Stratford). Simple was, in fact, the byword by which Audrey Hepburn lived

when it came to her look. She favored clean lines and a slim fit in plain colors. Many of her

clothes were inspired by the look of men's wear, but it all had a distinct and absolute femininity

(Stratford). When it comes to Audrey Hepburn and fashion, you don't need to have seen a single

one of the star's films (although you should treat yourself to a few) to understand why she

remains a style icon long after her heyday. Like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Coco Chanel,

she had a strong fashion sense that captured the imagination of millions of other women and

continues to have an impact. When the nazi invaded the Netherlands in 1940, Audrey was

unable to leave the country. In 1940, Audrey moved to London to study ballet at Arnhem

conservatory where she established a career in dancing and acting.

Audrey Hepburn was known for her gracefully petite figure (and famously long neck) and for her

air of playful elegance. Among her best-known films were Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), My Fair

Lady (1964), and Roman Holiday (1953). She won the best actress Oscar for the latter and was

nominated for Oscars four other times: for Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Nun's Story (1959),

Sabrina (1954), and Wait Until Dark (1967).(Hewitt) Audrey's acting career began in 1948 with

a small role in the European educational film called, Dutch in Seven Lessons. Audrey continued

to play small roles in many other films. In 1951, Audrey moved to New York City to star in her

first big movie called, Gigi. Also, In 1953, Audrey starred in her first Broadway movie, Romans

Holiday, which made her an instant celebrity and landed her on the cover of, Time Magazine.

She also received both a golden globe for Best Motion Picture and an Academy Award for her

role in the film. In 1967, Audrey continued her acting career in the movie , Wait till Dark, where

she earned her Academy Award nomination. In 1980s, Audrey decided she should slow down

her career and divorced her husband, Mel Ferrer, in whom she had one kid with. Later on, she

got remarried and had one son with, Dr. Andrea Dotti. As Audrey's acting came to a close,

Audrey made her last debut in in, love Among Thieves, and, Always.

After 40 years, Audrey is one of the most recognized and loved women in the world. She was

such an unassuming and self-deprecating about her celebrity status and it allowed her graceness

to lead her through her life. She was always ready to take care of those in need.

Before Audrey died, she became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF in the late 1980s. (Audrey

Hepburn)Audrey always hoped to make an impact on the world in a positive way, and she very

much did that. She understood what it was like to be starving when the German occupation

occurred so she wanted to do anything she could do no one had to go through that. Audrey died

on January 20, 1993 in her home in Tolochenaz, Switzerland from colon cancer. She left behind

and iconic look, style and her kindness. Audrey was one of a kind and no one can compare to

her. Since, Audrey went out of her way to help the needy and less fortunate, she receive the

humanitarian award, but was not alive long enough to receive it. Not only did Audrey leave an

impact on UNICEF, but her kids as well as her companion, Robert Wolders, established the

Audrey Hepburn Memorial Fund to continued Audrey humanitarian work in 1994. (Audrey

Audrey Hepburn left an astonishing legacy to all of her fans. Audrey will always be remembered

for her beautiful physical features to her fantastic acting as well as her foundations. Audrey was

an actress, turned fashion icon, whose life inspired millions of people and left a legacy for

generations to come.
