Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn (Edda Kathleen van Heemstra

Hepburn-Rusten) was born in Belgium. Her
mother, Ella van Heemstra Rusten, is Dutch
baroness who had aspired to become an opera
singer. Her father Bohemian-born English
banker with “Dark velvet eyes” (AHB 14).
Audrey had two brothers, Alexander and Ian.
She and her mother move to England to get
space from the family; she begins boarding
school and takes up ballet at the age of five. In
1935, her parents’ divorce.
Audrey  started off as a model during World War
Two to save money for dance school and she was
discovered.
Audrey Hepburn  was a British actress and
humanitarian.

She was named The Best Dressed Oscar winner of all time. And
she truly deserved it. Because of the difference in my opinion
Audrey is my favorite. Her grace, elegance, and morals are what
make so many women look up to her. Her generous and caring
heart helped her become the person she was and why I can
proudly say she is my role model

Winning Awards, she was one of the first celebrities to achieve an

EGOT. Which is an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony. She won
an Oscar for Best Actress in Roman Holiday, a Tony for Best
Actress in Online, an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for
Gardens of The World with Audrey Hepburn, and last, but not least
a Grammy for Best spoken word children’s album for Audrey
Hepburn’s Enchanted Tales. Her oldest son said “She should be
proud of her accomplishment she is one of the few celebrities with
so much ambition and faith”. And she should be proud.
One of the first aspects i researched
was Audrey’s work in africa. Little did i
know she stared her own charity The
Audrey Hepburn Children’s Charity for
UNICEF. She was also the one who
started an era of relief to Africa.

Audrey went to Africa and lived the remaining

years of her life there helping children and
providing food and clean drinking water.
In her later years, acting took a back seat to her work
on behalf of children. She became a goodwill
ambassador for UNICEF in the late 1980s. Traveling the
world, Hepburn tried to raise awareness about children
in need. She understood too well what it was like to go
hungry from her days in the Netherlands during the
German Occupation. Making more than 50 trips,
Hepburn visited UNICEF projects in Asia, Africa and
Central and South America. She won a special Academy
Award for her humanitarian work in 1993, but she did
not live long enough to receive it. Hepburn died on
January 20, 1993, at her home after a battle with colon
cancer.

Her work to help children around the world continues.

Her sons, Sean and Luca, along with her companion
Robert Wolders, established the Audrey Hepburn
Memorial Fund at UNICEF to continue Hepburn's
humanitarian work in 1994. It is now known as the
Audrey Hepburn Society at the US Fund for UNICEF.
