Find definitions for the following terms...

Soundbites A short extract from recorded interview or


speech, chosen for its concision or
succinctness.
Regions A portion of an audio file
Timelines It is associated with editing software, where you
place a audio file into a timeline which allows
you to place stuff where you need it.
Waveforms A wave of compression and rarefaction, by which
sound is propagated in an elastic medium such as
air.
Levels How loud or quiet the audio is.

Fades A fade is a gradual increase or decrease in the level


of an audio signal.
Track Overlay Laying two audio clips over eachother, so we
can hear them at the same time.

What are the three main techniques utilised by sound editors?


1. Cutting, joining or fading (in and out)
2. Topping and tailing, this is removing unwanted material from the
beginning and end of regions
3. Removing clicks, breathing sounds, pauses from within the body of
regions.
