Unit of Inquiry Integrated and Stand-Alone Learning Outcomes

Writing: Recounts use a succinct orientating device early in the piece to introduce a point of view. Events are related in time order. Students will use observation and/or
reflection to foreground events or details of significance to them. Students fictional recount ending statement should reflect or comment on what success looked like in
Literacy
Middle School as if they had just completed 6th grade. Their recount (in the form of a scrap book) would in fact be a way to predict future events, inserting information
about skills and knowledge outcomes that are necessary for a middle school student.

Students will inquire into and develop an understanding of how we can use probability to make predictions about what could happen in the future. Students will evaluate
real-world applications such as the results of games and examining whether or not certain events will occur. They will also develop an understanding of why predictions can
be inaccurate, even when very likely to occur.
Mathematics
Students will be introduced algebra and be given the opportunity to solve problems using algebraic methods, including conversations and comparison of rate and time.
Extension activities will include similar applications using exponents and roots to explain responses.
