The Case of John Q

The Value of Life

The value of life was violated because the lives of those inside the hospital where
in danger when they were held hostage by John Q.

The Principal of Goodness and Rightness

This principle was violated because he violated the principle of beneficence


which is to always do what is good. Even though he did it for his son, what he did
placed the lives of others in danger. The principle of non-maleficence was also violated
since his intent was to cause harm if he did not get what he wanted.

The Principle of Justice and Fairness

This principle was violated because he did not treat others fairly or justly. Those
who were held hostage did not deserve to be in a dangerous situation as such.

The Principle of Truth Telling/ Honesty

This principle was violated because there was no meaningful communication


involved. He simply acted of his own accord to get what he wanted.

Principle of Individual Freedom

This principle was violated because he chose to do what is immoral by holding


people hostage.
