Theme: Prayer for soldiers entering battle

Passage:

Psalms 18:2-4 NABRE

I love you, Lord, my strength,

3 Lord, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer,

My God, my rock of refuge,

my shield, my saving horn,[a] my stronghold!

4 Praised be the Lord, I exclaim!

I have been delivered from my enemies.

Reflection:

Psalms 18:2-4 is a military leader thanking God for protecting him in war. Many soldiers going

into war have regrets about having to witness horrifying things and sometimes having to kill

themselves. This passage thanks God for help and forgiveness during war as sometimes war is

necessary for peace and the rights of Christians and other faithful. One example of this is World

War II and the Holocaust. Many American Christians were sent to war and expected to kill, but

this was to liberate people who were also faithful. The prayer written is for soldiers to ask for

forgiveness and protection as they enter battle.

Prayer:

O God, as we enter into battle grant us strength to overcome our adversaries

We ask that you be there with us as we defend our rights to worship you

Help us to bring peace to the world that has been overcome with sin

Excuse us for our actions on the battlefield as we hope to bring glory to you

Please grant us forgiveness for our sins as we try to defend those in need

Let us feast with you in Heaven shall we perish during the fight

Please Lord God, be our shield and help us to survive this battle

We ask that you be our rock in battle and support us in protecting our people

Let us take refuge in you during this time of great violence

Lord, help us to return to our families and be delivered from our enemies, Amen
