In not more than 600 words, expand your understanding of commitment and compliance in relation to
being a worker.

For me, commitment entails loyalty and hard work. First, loyalty. To be loyal one must look unto
the betterment of the company as a whole and not of ones personal interest. For instance, if an officer
is in charge of deciding whom to choose as a wholesaler of the companys product, and such officer has
choice between his friend, whom he has a secret arrangement with, and a stranger, the officer must
choose the wholesaler that would put the company into the best position. Thus, in this case, if the
officer chose his friend without looking into his/her capability, then such officer failed to portray his/her
commitment to the company. Second, hard work. Hard work, for me means, doing ones best, not just
for the sake of complying but for the sake of improvement. Doing ones best is a great example of
commitment because it shows that a person has put importance into his work.

On the other hand, compliance only, for me is being lazy. Lazy because, if a person only wants to
comply he/she does not strive to provide the best result. Which I believe, is detrimental to the company
where he/she is working. For example, instead of actually inspecting the quality of the products, an
employee only looked unto the products and decided that they were good so that he/she could finish
his/her report early. In this case, one can see that the employee only aimed to comply to the
requirements of his/her work, which in effect could cause the company to incur external failure costs
such as warranty repairs or sales returns.

All in all, commitment entails compliance, but compliance itself is not sufficient to portray
commitment. One must show his/her loyalty and hard work to say that he/she is committed to his/her
work and company.
