their academic success in the future. As parents we enjoy conversations with our children and
especially if it's going to help them develop strong language skills. What most of us don't know
is that by checking our cell phone while conversating with them can affect their Language skills.
When parents use cell phones in front of children it breaks the conversation. As you get
distracted they get distracted as well. In the article "when parents check their phones, it hinders
their children's language skills, study finds", Kathy Hirsh-pasek emphasizes that "if they break
that conversation with a cellphone call or looking at a text, then what happens is they break the
ability for this very important back and forth to happen, and kids don't learn". (Hirsh-pasek line
18) As parents we don't know that an innocent glance at our cell phone can affect our children's
ability to learn; what parent would want to do that? The more interaction with our children and
Language skills are such an important predictor of students success because they have
good communication skills. They are more social and good listeners. As as Kathy Hirsh-Pasek
states "it relates to this thing that we call "executive function", our name for a person being able
your child a well rounded learner- even in math studies it has shown. Language skills itself will
make our children do better in school of those who don't have strong language skills.
