Internship
Influence How has internship influenced me in thinking about my
future?
This internship has made me think about where I want to go with my career path. One reason I
wasn't so sure if I wanted to do law as a career is because I wanted to do more community based
things such as working for a non-profit like HomeBoy Industries who are a gang intervention
program that help people who were previously in gangs, get jobs, etc. By doing my 11th grade
internship here at Hadsell Stormer & Renick I realized that I can still do that if I choose law as a
career path. My mentor, Cindy, has put together a program with the City of Los Angeles very similar
to the work HomeBoy Industries is doing. Before this internship I was not sure if I wanted to go to
law school(I still am not sure, which is okay) and at the same time I felt that if I didn't go to law
school, I would not be able to help people find justice in the way I wanted. I had lunch with a few of
the paralegals here at the office and hearing about their experiences, I don't have to go to law
school to work in the Law field. At one point in their lives they have all thought about going to law
school but decided not to. I love the idea of a career in solving social injustices but at the same time I
have thought about a career in fashion or media/entertainment. I am still young and unsure of my
career plans, which is okay, but this internship has made me think in a different perspective when it
comes to careers and the future.
Thanks!
