The first signal source is a superlov-distortion programmable RC oscillator by a bridged-T type oscillation systen with a frequency range from 10 Hz to 110 kHz. A distortion factor of less than 0.0002% (-114 dB) is accomplished in the range from 50 Hz to 10 kiiz. The maximum output of this signal source is 5 vrms across a 600-9 load (10 vims at an open end). The output is adjustable in 0.1-aB steps by an output attenuator of total 99.9 4B. ‘The output can be set in aBm (600-9, 1 nit xefexence) or dav"! (0 dav = 1 Vrms). Either of these output units can be used. ‘The output ranging from -€3.7 to 16.2 dBm or ~85.9 to 14.0 av can be read directly by 7-segment LEDs. The seccha signal source is a test signal to measure the intermodulation distortion (IMD) and is a mixed wave’? of two frequencies. of the two frequencies, the low frequency (LE) is 50 or 60 Hz and the high frequency (HF) is 2 to 10 kil. The mixing level ratio between LF and HF can be adjusted within the range of 1:1 to @:1. an intermodulation distortion factor of 0.0028 (~ 4 a3) has been accomplished. The maximum output of this signal source is 1.58 Vrms across a 600-2 oad (3.16 Vrms at an open end). The output is adjustable in 0.1-aB steps by an output attenuator of total 89.9 dB. ‘The output is set and displayed in rms value of the mixed wave of two frequencies. The output range is -83.7 to 6.2 dBm, or -85.9 to 4.0 dav. A test signal of a wave mixed with two signals of an equal level whose frequencies are very close is applied to the device under test to measure distortion that appears in the @ifference frequency of the test signal. See Fig. 1-14. 1-18 Fs res eT or tial fc) me = ? es Section I GENERAL Fig. 1-14 CCIF method The SMPTE method applies a test signal of a wave mixed with two signals whose frequencies are distant to the device under test to measure Gistortion that appear on both sides of the test signal high frequency (HF). See Fig. 1-15. Amplitude tt fy = Be esses | Frauen Fig. 1-15 SMPTE method As shown in Fig, 1-13, IMD measurement has five measuring ranges from 0-018 (-80 a3) to 1008 (0 dB) £.s.d. O£ these five ranges, automatic Fanging operation is possible with four ranges between the 0.01 and 108 ranges. (-90 aa). This function measures intermodulation distortion to 0.003% When intermodulation distortion shown in Fig. 1-15 occurs, the inter- modulation distortion can be defined by the following equation: 2-19 ection I GENERAr x 100 (4) (eB) S/N measurement he §/N ratio can be obtained by calculating the ratio between the signal (S) and noise (N) components : The S component is obtained by applying a signal to the object to be measured to measure its output level, and the N component is measured by disconnecting the applied signal and terminating the input terminal of the object to be measured by @ characteristic impedance. In the §/N-measuring function of this instrument, the application and disconnection of the signal generator output and measurements of the 5 and N component levels are automatically synchronized so that the measurement can be performed by merely pressing the S/N measurement key. As measurement results, the S signal level and S/N ratio are simul- taneously displayed in dB. ‘The S signal equency is also measured and displayed simultaneously ‘The S/N measurement is conducted as shown in Fig. 1-16. sy Automatically disconnects T] osctator utpur 3 LL Amplitude} Component ‘This kyet is measured and is memorized as the § component level LM * Lis wooo wood, The frequency is measured simultaneously. “This level is measured and Is assumed 40 be N component level 20 log (S/N) is calcalated and ie cisplayed together with the 'S component leveL [S/N delay tine setting can be changed Fig. 1-16 S/N measurement 1-20 ¥ 1 repo om Section I GENERAL S/N measurement is merely a measurement of both § and N components in tevel measurement discussed in paragraph 1-7. The teasurement block Giagram is exactly the same as Fig. 1-6. the S and N components that San Be measured are similarly 30 uV to 100 V, (However, § component > N component.) Residual noise is less than 10 HV as in level measurement. ‘The range of She S/N ratio that can be measured depends on the § signal component tevel. For example, S/N ratio 130 d8 and greater can be measured to an § signal component level of 100 V. the S/N measurement range decreases 20 @B for every 10 &B reduced in thie 5 signal component level. Sone S/N measurenents axe performed after weighting using a noise weighting filter. This instrument is provided with a noise weighting filter of A characteristics common to both the JIS and IHF standards (see Fig. 1-5 for characteristics) as a standard provision. One type of & Weighting filter can be added as an option. ‘The characteristics of She filters that can be added are described in paragraph 113, For Poth § and m component measurements, automatic ranging is performed Snong seven ranges between 0.316 mV and 100 V f.s.d. Manual range Section is not possible. Ratio Measurement Shis instrument has two input ports, 1 and R, each of which has a measur- ing system. the function to megsure the level ratio R/L or L/R of the signals applied to the 1 and R i put terminals simultaneously is called * xetic measuring function. ‘This function is useful in measuring Srosstaik and separation between channels of a device to be measured with dual-channel signal systems such as stereo amplifiers. Fig. 1-17 is a block diagram showing ratio measurement system. The Siagrem is for R/L. As shown in the diagram, this instrument has two Getection circuits. The one is an average-responding detection circuit Se detect signal levels at the output point of the preamplifier. the other one is an average~ or rms-respending detection circuit to detect Signal levels at the output point of the final stage of the amplifier System, The signal applied to the denominator side of the ratio is Getected by the former detection circuit, while the signal applied ‘to ‘he numerator side is detected in the latter detection circuit, Section I GENERAL, Linput Rinpat ‘The processor calculates ratio between these tvo values. ‘The frequency 4s measured on input signals on the denominator side. The frequency, signal level on the denominator side, and ratio measured value are displayed simultaneously. he level on the denominator side is measured with the xanges from 0.133 V to 100 v £.s.a. (2.5 4B steps, total 24 ranges). Signals of approximately greater than 30 mV can be measured. The level on the numerator side is measured with the ranges from 0.316 mV to 100 V £.5.d. (20 dB steps, total 7 ranges). This measurement is similar to level measurement discussed in paragraph 1-7, and internal noise is below 10 uv. Therefore, the dynamic range of the ratio measurement range is greater than 130 dB. For example, if the input signal level on the denominator side is 10 V (= 20 aBV), the ratio measurement range will be between 20 and -110 dB, or a total of 130 4B. Ratios measured can be indicated in units of either % or aB. output indication in t is not possible when 1008 is exceeded (the numerator is larger than the denominator level). Automatic and manual range selections are possible to change measurement vanges on both the numerator and denominator sides. The Sane DSP as that described in paragraph 1-10 THDL is used in this Measuring function for signal averaging and digital detection processing. * Feference signal to detect the periodicity of signal components is needed in this measurenent. This period reference signal is applied to the input terminal on the 1 side. By applying the signal to be neasured fo the input terminal on the R side, only components whose period have matched the period of the reference signal are picked up from signals to be measured and their levels are measured. She measurement range is 0.316 mi to 100 V £.s.d. in seven ranges, and residual noise is less than 10 uv. Apply 0.1 V or greater as the reference signal for L input. Signal averaging is performed by arithnetic averaging. ‘The number of averages can be selected among 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256.
