3A. A 415 V, 40 HP, 50 Hz delta connected induction motor gave the following test data:
No-load test : 415 V, 21 A, 1250 W
Blocked rotor test : 100 V, 45 A, 2730 W
Stator copper losses are equal to rotor copper losses. Draw the circle diagram and
determine (i) maximum output (ii) starting torque and (iii) maximum torque (iv) full
load efficiency and slip (07)

4A. With the help of neat sketches explain the process of armature reaction in a DC
generator. How the effect of armature reaction can be minimized? (05)
4B. A 10 kW, 50 Hz, 4 pole, 3 phase induction motor has a rotor leakage impedance of
(0.2 + j1.5) per phase at standstill. When delivering full load torque the motor runs
at 1440 rpm. Standstill rotor voltage = 60 V per phase. Determine the magnitude of
emf injected at the rotor terminals for a speed of a) 1000 rpm b) 1800 rpm. Assume
load torque remains constant. (05)
5A. A 3 phase induction motor has a starting torque of 150 % & a maximum torque of
250 % of the full load torque. Neglecting stator impedance calculate a) the slip at
maximum torque b) full load slip (03)
5B. Two single phase transformer rated 1000 kVA and 500 kVA are connected in parallel
on both HV and LV sides. They have equal voltage ratings of 11 kV / 400 V and their
per unit impedances are (0.02 + j 0.07) and (0.025 + j 0.0875) respectively. What is
the largest value of the unity power factor load that can be delivered by the parallel
combination at rated voltage? (04)
5C. Explain the process of commutation in a DC Generator. Why carbon brushes are
used? (03)
6A. At standstill, the equivalent impedance of inner and outer cages of a double cage
induction motor are (0.4 + j 0.2) and ( 2 + j 0.4) respectively. Calculate the ratio
of the torques produced by the two cages at (i) standstill and (ii) 4 % slip (04)
6B. A universal series motor when operating on 110 V DC draws 6 A and runs at
1200 rpm. Find the new speed and power factor when connected to 110 V AC, 50 Hz
supply, the motor current remaining the same. The motor has total resistance of 1
and total inductance of 0.1 H. (03)
6C. List out advantages, disadvantages and applications of induction generator. (03)
