Yea you can be Odysseus

You can be the best
You can be a hero for us
Just come to the west

Your beloved is waiting

Your mother is near death
Your son is crying
Come to us with your last breath

Dont wait for luck

Odysseus come to us and you gon be fine

Scylla
Charybdis
She is frightening and
nobody can look at her
without being afraid.
However, the picture
given makes her look like
a little girl, she is very
scary.

Though she is huge and monstrous. God or

man, no one could look on her in joy. (44 -

description of Charybdis other than
Her legs are 12 serpent looking creatures the fact that it swallows and spits out
much more like tentacles than human feet the dark sea tide
since they dont have joints. Her Serpent legs
have nightmare inducing faces of ferocity Charybdis lurks below to swallow
with rows and rows of sharp teeth. down the dark sea tide. (Line 63 - 64)

that not even Poseidon, God of the

themselves.

Leadership Analysis paragraph

Odysseus is a good leader because he is

committed and creative. Odysseus was
committed to accomplishing his goal of
passing Scylla's lair with losing only several
men then passing through Charybdis where
you couldve lost his ship and all his men.
From the quotations, No, hug the cliff of
Scylla, take your ship through on a racing
stroke. Better to mourn six men than lose
them all, and the ship, too.. This quote
demonstrates that the goddess advised
Odysseus to go through Scyllas lair then to
Charybdis because it was better to mourn for
six then rather lose the whole crew and
ship. This matters because it shows how
Odysseus is a good leader by committing to
his goal of returning to home rather than
dying with his crew from Charybdis.
Odysseus was a good leader by being
committed to his crew and trying to save
them even when he knew their
predetermined fate.

However that is not the only trait of

leadership he possess. He has proven to be
very creative and gets his crew out of sticky
situations with his creativity. When
Odysseus and his crew were trapped in a
cave with Polyphemus, Odysseus told the
cyclops that his name was Nohbdy so that

when he was stabbed in the eye, Polyphemus

would blame Nohbdy for blinding him. For
example, Kyklops, you ask my honorable
name? Remember the gift you promised me,
and I shall tell you. My name is Nohbdy:
mother, father, and friends,everyone calls
me Nohbdy.This quote demonstrates
Odysseuss creativity by lying to the Cyclops
about his name being Nohbdy. This
matters because when Polyphemus got
stabbed in the eye and called for the other
Cyclops, he blamed Nohbdy ruined his eye
and the other Cyclops laughed. Which
proves that Odysseuss creative plan worked
out well because he made Polyphemus look
like a fool which also benefited his crew by
helping them escape.Overall, Odysseus
shows great leadership through his
commitment and his creativity, by saving his
men and accomplishing his goals.

Reading Comprehension Questions:

1. What three great dangers does Circe warn the men about?
Circe warns them about The Sirens and how they will try to sing to lure him
and his crew. She warns them about the mountains. How Scylla and Charybdis
dwell in the caves and the sea. The last danger is Helioss island and his
magical calves and cattle. If they eat them, they will personally be killed by
Helios.

2.What does Odysseus do to keep his men from hearing the Sirens song?
What does Odysseus have his men do to him so that he is still able to hear
the Sirens song without being harmed?
He puts beeswax into their ears to keep them from hearing the Sirens song.
Odysseus has his men tie him up to the mast of the ship so he can still hear the
Sirens song without being harmed.

3. Why do you think that Odysseus wants to hear the song?

Jonathan Ma
Kenny Yoon

Maybe because he is selfish and wanted to hear the song only for himself.
Another possible suggestion is that so hell know when to plug his ears.

4. Describe Scyllas appearance. Make note of the line numbers that

describe her.

Lines 45-50

5. Describe Charybdis appearance. Make note of the line numbers that

describe her.
It is a monster that vomits and swallows the dark sea tide. Lines 62 - 67. There
arent many words describing it directly in the text but Im guessing it looks
like a giant monster with sharp teeth.

6. Why do you think Odysseus chooses to sail towards Scylla rather than
towards Charybdis? What does this say about his leadership?
He chose to sail Scylla because hell pass but one draw back is he will lose
some men. He chose not to sail to Charybdis because all of them would die
and he wouldnt be able to pass. I think he is a good leader because he was
willing to sacrifice some of his crew to move on to his destination to complete
his goal. He would be a bad leader if he lead his men to death at Charybdis.

7. Why doesnt Odysseus warn his men about Scylla? What does this say
about his leadership?
He decides to keep the secret about Scylla so that his men wouldnt have
Dropped their oars in panic. Some would say he used his men as pawns
instead of treating them correctly and telling his crew. Another would say that
he made a good move because the fate of his men was inevitable. It was
already prophesied that his men will die. If he chose to tell them, they would
have tried to avoid this and probably all died at the hands of Charybdis.
