JUNE 2017 Newsletter

UPCOMING

Sept 29-30 Celebrating 150 Years of Canadian Quilting Nelson, BC

THE EVENING NEWS

As you all know we had no heat at Christie Lee Hall this past winter. We were all determined to carry on,
so we met in homes and the Seniors Centre on Vernon St. We finally went back to the hall - three of us lugging
portable heaters back and forth. Wouldnt you know, now that spring has arrived we have heat! Is that one of
Murphys Laws?
Our group has had a fairly busy winter, many quilts have been started, sandwiched and completed. Some
of these projects are for family weddings, babies arriving, the upcoming Quilt Show and some just because. A
few ladies have been dipping into their stashes and have come up with wonderful scrap quilts. Its nice to re-visit
old fabrics weve all had for years.
We did not host our auction this year and our Christmas dinner didnt happen until February where most
of us gathered at Max and Irmas for a lovely evening enjoyed by all.
On the weekend of April 21-23 six of us went to Lemon Creek Lodge for a spring retreat. It was productive
and a lot of fun. This was followed by the Quilt Gathering in Fruitvale on April 29. Many lovely quilts were shown,
merchants were kept hopping, and muffins and other goodies were in constant supply.
For now, Ill just say, Have fun over the summer and keep stitchn! - Lorraine McGregor

APPLIQUE GROUP

This talented group of ladies gather on the second Wednesday of each month starting again in September. They all
work at their own pace on personal projects, no-time limits and no stress. Want to join? Contact Suzy at 250-229-

SLAB QUILTS FOR CQA

Thanks to a great turnout to our slab block party in

January we made enough blocks to send one small and two
large completed quilts to the coast to be given to children at
Ronald McDonald House. Elsie Gates and Sharon Drew also
sent slab quilts.
QUILTS FOR ROMAINIA

Inspired by the slab block challenge this group has also fallen in love with this
great scrap busting technique and have made several quilts with these fun
blocks. Over 250 quilts, approximately two years worth of work, are currently
on route to Romania and will shortly be distributed to orphans in need.

SPRING TEA

Our Spring Tea was a great moment to celebrate our return to the hall. It was
also the perfect opportunity to present Miyo Mori with an honorary membership. Thank
you, Miyo, for all that you do for the guild!

DARLENES DEPARTURE

Hospital quilt organiser, party planner, raffle quilt member,

finger sandwich master, mentor and friend are only a few of
the many things that describes Darlene Hearn and what she
means to us. She and her husband have moved to
Whitecourt, AB to be closer to family. We will miss the
twinkle in her eye and her infectious laugh. Thank you,
Darlene, for well everything! We wish you all the best in
your new life.

RAFFLE QUILT

The raffle quilt is done and is looking gorgeous. Contact Laura McEachern to sign
up for ticket sales and collect a book of tickets to sell to your family, friends and
neighbours. Lets reach $5000!
