Mindmap of ideas for your installation

Create a mindmap showing ideas of how you might install your video.
Define what type(s) of visuals you will use.
(Eg. video cameras, still cameras, hand crafted artwork, film, animation, digital technologies)

Installation / set sketches

Draw a series of thumbnail sketches showing ideas for your installation. Add labels to your diagrams to

Sound design

What sound will your Productions have?

Only sound will be from the short films there will be no other sounds this is to create the effect that
youre sat in a cinema watching the short films.

Will you use headphones or speakers for this sound?

We will be using speakers so that up to four people can watch the short films at one time.

Why?

We decided to use a surround sound system to create a cinematic effect that can be shared with up to 4
people

Lighting design

What lighting will you have in your installation? Consider health and safety.
No lights apart from projector this is to create the idea that youre sat in a dark cinema

Sketch out your lighting plans for the installation.

We will have individual spot lights on the ceiling of

the instillation so that it gives the viewer the same
effect as if they were sat in the cinema watching a
film

Projection vs screen

Will you project your video or play it on a screen?

Projector onto screen

Why? If you are using a screen, will you

use a single screen, or multiple
screens?

To create the idea that they are at the We will be using a single screen similar

Technological convergence

What is technological convergence?

When things come together, video with sculpture, incorporating YouTube to installation, when technology helps
things work together

Will you be using this in your installation?

no

Explain your answer.

There will be no technology that brings the instillation together, this is because we are simply using a projector to project
the short films onto a screen, there will be no use of YouTube as the file has been exported separately from Premier Pro.

Influences:

Work of the artists Many of the artist weve researched have made the most of their
you have environments, and focused primarily on immersion and high-quality
researched presentation.

Venue and facilities Being a rather small venue, much of the planning was built around the
venue, creating a compact presentation area.

Lighting The darker nature of the small enclosed room well be using helps a lot in
both clarity of projection and the overall presentation. It also allows us to
experiment with the way we do lighting.

Sound The small space helps to make the most of even cheaper speakers.

Screens / Projectors The larger projector screen well be using helps a lot in bringing focus to
the films rather than the environment

Copyright Issues:

What potential copyright issues could your installation infringe?

Whilst most of the installation videos are original content, many of them use licensed
music or stories. The short film Voodoo as an example features prominently both
concepts from the Deathnote series of books, as well as music from the same series.

How can you be certain that the work you are displaying does not violate any copyright
infringements?
As students our work falls under basic creative commons rights and as independent,
small scale, non-profit based projects these fall under the Fair Use Doctrine.

Analysis:

Whilst our presentation is far from flashy, it is both clear and focused on the works presented - an eclectic
and stylistic mixture of short-films means that it was difficult to present them in any way specific to any of
the productions, as such our video installation is specifically designed to not infringe on any of the
thematic or narrative elements of each piece - rather placing the focus as much as possible on the
screening of the short films, similar to that of a cinema.

The theming of the whole presentation is designed to replicate that of a small cinema screening, so as to
bring the short-films to an almost campy level of replication for what are mostly smaller productions
designed to replicate similar yet much larger hollywood productions.
