1 SIMULATION OF TOTAL PRESSURE LOSS

1.1 ASSIGNMENT
1. Use the provided Simulation to understand the normal shock at an engine intake. From the
simulation results, calculate the total pressure loss through the engine inlet.

1.2 ONLINE TESTING

2. For the test, you will be asked to perform such simulation and calculate the total pressure
loss for given boundary conditions.
2 SIMULATION OF THE HEAT TRANSFER

2.1 ASSIGNMENT
3. Create a new material called shielding material with a low thermal conductivity (e.g. 1W/mK)

4. In the definition of the interface, choose a heat transfer option and select the new material

5. In the definition of the aircraft boundary, choose a temperature

6. Understand, how the engine wall is heating up from the surrounding airflow.

7. Increase/decrease the insulation layer to the engine wall or change the thermal conductivity
and observe, how the wall temperature changes.

2.2 ONLINE TESTING

8. You will be asked to perform a simulation with given boundary conditions and present your
results.
